Houston help needed

The Woodlands, though expensive, is also gorgeous. Both of these places are nice areas, you aren't likely to get shot walking out your front door or anything like that.

Housing is relatively cheap too (cheaper than, say, The Woodlands).

I take it you guys have never looked for housing in the Woodlands? There are currently 49 homes on har.com for sale under the $155k Houston average home price in the Woodlands. 184 homes below the national average of $220k. The Philidelphia average is a bit higher than $220k, not much.

Granted, the average home price is probably more like $300k in the Woodlands. But that just makes it all more appealing for us cheap folk. ;)

My brother(our guitar player) has lived in Houston since the 80's on the west side which was fine until Katrina.

If you can let us know where your wife's new gig may be and things will be a LOT easier. I lived in Houston for 3 months in 1989 and living closer to your employment can save a whole lot of grief....not to mention windshield time.

I would avoid living in any part of Houston that lies in the Gulf Coastal Plain region:

:D

Used to live in the Houston area...don't ever want to again. Sorry, Houston folks!

yeah, i live in League City - Clear Lake /NASA area south of Houston. It's a nice area about the same distance between the beach and downtown.

but as all the others said, try to get somewhere close to the workplace cause rush hour traffic is bad.

My girlfriend lives in League City (or is it Seabrook? close enough)...maybe I've seen you in public sometime without realizing it :p

Thanks again, y'all.
I hope to hear about the new job site location soon.

What about gigs? Do people like to to come out and hear live music in Houston?
There's a place or two to play, yeah, but the competition is pretty thick. There's also the fact that nine places out of ten don't give a damn about your music at all, they just care about how many you bring to the door. But I don't know if that's a local thing or if it's national.

Yeah, that is certainly the case up north too, at least, in the realm of original music.
It seems as though my 'bread & butter' has been the gigs where the band is just "wallpaper", i.e. restaurants, museums, etc.. I have to believe that these gigs exist in H as well, being that it is a larger city than Philly.

77008....Northwest? I'd definitely recommend either the Katy or Cypress area then....some beautiful neighborhoods in both towns.

Like GermanDude said, the further outside you get, the nicer the homes are.

The major exception being you make a lot of money, and like living in a diverse neighborhood, then check out the Heights. It's closer than those two prior 'burbs I mentioned, and has some very nice homes....some really crappy ones too. The Heights are strange - literally some houses are worth well over one million of dollars, then just blocks over, you have the ghetto.
