How come we all don't play Carvin instruments & amps/cabs?

That's cool. Just curious... why would it take a thread about why people don't use them to accomplish that? Was it the defensive posts?
This thread was bound to be a trainwreck from the start, mainly due to the way the OP was phrased.
However, if it had been started like this:
"Why don't more people play Carvin basses and amps/cabs? It seems like they offer great bang for the buck, consistently high quality and lots of options on their basses and would be more popular than they are."
Then this discussion would have been framed in a very different way.
Again, I think Carvin gear is great for what it is, but when the thread begins with inflammatory statements such as the implication that they are equal or better than other instruments that cost much more (and that many people like) AND the notion that "everyone" should play them, there's nowhere for the conversation to go but down really.
However, if it had been started like this:
"Why don't more people play Carvin basses and amps/cabs? It seems like they offer great bang for the buck, consistently high quality and lots of options on their basses and would be more popular than they are."

I don't see them talked about that often. Hell, I didn't know anything about them except for the SB5000 review from Ed Friedland and a blurb in the American Basses book I barely looked at. Thanks to this thread, I found out it's mail order, really cheap for a US made instrument, once endorsed by Jaco, and that their fans seem to be generally good natured. Still don't think they're the BEST looking instruments, but as said before, the bolt on designs aren't bad at all.
This is from a thread I initially called very silly and pointless.
Something about Carvin basses just don't play right to me, and that just isn't fixable. They sure are beautiful and the level of customization at the price is amazing. I haven't played their guitars and I still consider getting a midi classical Carvin.
I have never owned a Carvin bass - or a Carvin anything for that matter. I have several friends who love their basses. I have played at least a dozen Carvin basses and I simply do not like the feel of the neck. Just not for me, at any price.
It is a shame they don't offer a pbass or reverse pbass pickups. Come on Carvin, you're missing out on so many buyers!
Yeah, I really don't get why they don't do the P Bass thing. I wonder if its fear of Fender. Not sure why making a "better" P bass would be any more threatening that making a "better" J bass though. Maybe Carvin can't figure out how to make a P pickup
Valid point. Granted, I don't really have too much interest in the SB series.
As for refund periods, I typically buy used, so if I don't like it, someone else has all ready eaten the depreciation.

What you apparently don't see doesn't reflect what's been going on here on TB since the very beginning. Carvin is hardly lightly represented in conversations. Do a search.
Their fans come in all stripes, from those who are content to be happy with what they're happy with to the typical fanboy can't believe everyone isn't out to get them variety.
I didn't even say anything remotely bad about them and look what happened. Just not personally liking them is taken as a slight.

But seriously, Carvin's been around forever, but they've only just in the last year or so come out with their Jazz bass rendition. Prior to that time, there probably wasn't enough demand but as it grew, they finally responded to it.
Maybe it's the same thing with a P bass imitation. Not enough demand at the current time to justify the extra tooling, parts, R&D, etc. But if a demand appears, they may come out with one.

Well, I never really wanted to search for Carvin specifically - I just dropped into this thread because of how ridiculous the title was. The OP doesn't even own a Carvin bass. I don't personally like them either mainly based on looks, but I didn't get attacked by any means.
The thread ultimately did urge me to check more into the bass though.
Ultimately though, what has happened since the beginning is irrelevant to what I have seen, since I have only been here since 2011. I haven't seen a ton of Cravin threads active, aside from the SB roll call. It was an interesting read, and fun to participate in.
