How come we all don't play Carvin instruments & amps/cabs?

I don't think that's what he's doing at all. I think he's having fun and not taking this thread too seriously, all while educating people about Carvins. IMO he's doing a good job.

Read through the reason to hate Carvin posts - I laughed my @$$ off. Most of this thread is in good fun, not attacking.

You mean to say when I replied to you saying that you made a great point, it came off like I was attacking you? I'm sorry you perceive my posts in that way.

Well, not full amount up front, just 20% down. Then remainder prior to shipping. But yes, that's a great point and as many have pointed out, a good reason that Carvin is where it is in terms of user base. Unless you live near one of their stores that is.

The smile I had playing my "custom made" Carvin is minuscule compared to the smile I had holding my first "custom made" Roscoe. I'm waiting for my 2nd custom made Roscoe while playing my 1st fretless Roscoe.

I'm glad Carvin works for you and anyone else. It didn't for me. I know Roscoe's don't work for everyone (can't imagine why ) and that's fine.

Both companies are making money and selling basses.

How so? What is educational, that you can order another neck? That one bass sold during the course of this thread didn't take a beating at resale time? So that means something trendwise? That he likes Carvins?


What is the educational component of this? That people SHOULD like them? He complained about misinformation, where was that? Frankly this is typical behaviour here.

Read the thread title and get back to me. I'm on topic...this is supposed to be meaningful discussion about why everyone isn't using Carvin gear. It certainly isn't because of all of the wonderful things they do. And I'm a former Carvin bass owner.

That's viable reason as well, especially if you are outside the US I understand.

I don't think everyone should play Carvin. I personally like their products and use them. After years of playing Warwicks, Alembics, Modulus, etc. I've switched to playing Carvins.

My current bass rig consists of:

Carvin SB5000 (fretted)
Carvin SB5001 (fretless)
Carvin BRX10.2 Neo cab
GK MB800

And I have a Carvin BX500 that is due in on Monday. The GK might stay, but if I can coax the tones I want out of the BX500, I may be running 100% (US) Carvin products soon. Then again if it doesn't, all Carvin products come with a 10 day trial and back to Carvin it goes.

By the way, I have a 1993 Warwick Streamer Stage I 5-string, Trace Elliot AH350SMX head and a pair of SWR Golight 2x10's collecting dust in my music room. I think the Carvin stuff plays and sounds every bit as good as any of that. Play a Carvin SB5000 back to back with a Sadowsky Metro. You might be surprised, I certainly was when I did. Have I played newer basses that I like better than my Carvins? Sure, I played a couple of Elrichs and Mike Lulls that I thought were better, but they were also 3 times the price and the quality versus price difference was not worth it to me personally.

I think this has to do a lot with it and is a good point. I know older Carvin owners don't like it when this kind of sentiment is expressed though.

Ok, maybe not EDUCATIONAL as in I'm learning about every feature that Carvin offers, but he did make me want to take a look into the brand a bit more.
