How could these speakers possibly be wired?

I'm taking a small risk and buying these bi ass speakers today. But i honestly believe the guy selling them as no idea how a ruler or measuring tape works.

"Here are some specs (per speaker):

One - High frequency driver coupled constant directivity horn
One -- 9" Mid-Range Speaker
Two - 14" Premium Heavy-Duty Long Throw Woofer
Powerful lows and crisp, clean highs without distortion
Power handling: 600 Watts Peak
Impedance: 8 ohms
Frequency Response: 20 Hz - 20 kHz
Dual 1/4 Input, High quality felt, Recessed handles, metal grill, metal corners
Most components are CARVIN and some FENDER
MDF 0.75" Enclosure, Dimensions: 18" x 20" x 62"
Weight: 150 lbs."


Who has ever heard of a 14'' speaker? I called him and asked and he assured me it was. WAT?

Yeah at most, i plan on using them just for practice speakers since the ones we have now are about to die. But im just wondering how these could possibly be 8 ohm if they have two bottom woofers, a mid driver and a horn. Does anybody have a diagram or something that explains this so i can understand this better?

There will be a crossover to do the frequency separation, so probably not a nasty piezo HF unit but a compression driver. Suspiciously like one of the disco type 3 way systems. The weird thing is one cab appears to be ported and the other not? Homemade cabs can be fine if built to a proper design and carefully made, or they could be horrible. Best of luck, so here's hoping they are good. As PA speakers, I'd be very sceptical.

Yeah i noticed that as well. worse comes to worse down the line, i could put new speakers in it, I'm just wondering how they could be 8 ohm with 4 separate things going on in the cabinet

Two 16 Ohm low frequency drivers wired parallel and passive crossover on the mid & tweeter, each being 8 Ohm drivers. The low frequency drivers may, or may not, have a passive crossover, but I doubt they do. They'd produce more SPL if they had a separate input jack for the lows and another for the mis/highs. That way, they could be bi-amped, using an active crossover.

ok so i got them. They sound great. But im very confused now. So the guy witched the speakers around so each cab had mixed speakers. So the bottom speaker is a Eminance delta lfa15 8ohm and the other is a fender 15'' bass speaker. No marking on how many ohms. The 10 inch speaker is a 32 ohm ampeg speaker.

I have no idea what these are though. I assumed 4 ohm a piece, but i was able to jump them together and they both pounded out and sounded great. and my amp does 1500w @ 4 ohm.

So i guess they really are 8 ohm cabinets.

Not bad for 100 bucks.

He is likely measuring from the inside of the mounting rings. The standard is to measure from the outside of the mounting rings.

If they really have a response from 20 to 20KHz then it is probably ±20dB.

They really do exist.

Had the (cough cough cough) Pleasure to work with these for a couple of years.
