I had been attempting to play music for several years, and I looked at my brother in law (raised me from the age of 11) and told him I wanted to play bass. He took me up to the bedroom and handed me his double bass that he hadn't played in about ten years. Not exactly what I had in mind.
Bass Guitar - I was 15 years old and was financed by the bro in law.
Double Bass - Played bro in laws through high school, and when I left home (early '80's), I left the DB behind. Bro in law died in 2001, and when I went to visit my sister in 2004, she had all but given up taking care of everything in the house. I asked if I could take the bass off her hands, and she said yes. In 2006 my wife took a trip from Georgia to Michigan with her mom, and I asked if they could stop at my sisters in Indiana on the way back to pick up the bass. I have had it ever since.
