How diverse is your bass collection?

Until recently it was very diverse w/ almost no duplication of any critical parameters:

- passive wood bolt-on fretted 4 string
- active graphite neck-thru fretted 4 string
- fretted 5 string
- fretless 5 string tuned BEADG w/ nylon tapewounds
- fretless 5 string tuned EADGC w/ nickel groundwounds
- fretted 6 string bolt-on graphite neck
- fretted 8 string (octave courses)

Recently I’ve acquired a second passive wood bolt-on fretted 4 string (...so now I have a J and a P) and another graphite necked fretted 6 string (albeit neck-thru), so those two additions feel more like duplications than diversity extenders.

The 80 Kramer Duke caught my eye. If my memory is correct that is the "Steinberger" version?? I had one of those way back when but it was very hard to keep in proper tune. Did/Do you experience the same problem? It was a very cool little bass though!

Some common themes, though a good amount of variety. The Guild is my baby but when the mood strikes or musical context changes, it's nice to be able to reach for a different feel or sound.

My collection has changed quite a bit since i posted here so here's the new line up:

And i am really hapoy with those... i just miss the Rockbass Starbass that i had to sell a few months ago...

I’d consider mine quite diverse-

1. Schecter Raiden Special-4 passive humbucker bass with coil split (HH or SS) wearing Ernie Ball Cobalt flats.

2. Squier VM Fretless Jazz with TIJFs.

3. Ibanez AEB5E acoustic with D’Addario Tapes.


I’ll probably end up switching out the TIJFs on the Fretless. It’ll either get Cobalt flats or D’Addario Tapes

I have an old German upright , three Pbasses , two Rics (a 4001 and a 4000) , a Stingray , a G&L L2500 Tribute , an old Hofner , an Epi Woody and an Epi Flying V , a Dano Longhorn (my #1) a weird modified 60's Japanese nightmare and an Ashbory . I've sold a number of others including an old fretless Pbass , a Rivoli , a longscale Dano and a five string Jazz . I think it's a pretty diverse selection . I also have five nice amps . No immediate urge to buy anything but you never know when something might turn up . I try and keep some discretionary funds ready for any musical emergency . I should probably thin the herd but there's nothing I really want to get rid of ... I play several gigs every week . Happy with what I have now though .
