how do i fix this hole?

ok so i im refreshing my bass and want to scrap the idea of a pickguard i think there ugly and interfear with my paint ideas soo now how if its even possible am i gonna fix the pocket in the bass... ive trashed some overly complicated ideas already so im thinking set a little wood piece into the body to cover it... would pics of the cavity help?

hmm can you help me understand why one promotes it and the other shuns it ? (im on a never-ending quest to unddertand all that i can) i've noticed that the proffesions and garge luthiers are llike them darn republicans and democrats :scowl::p:D ps how much does bondo cost; buying i new body also defeats the point to me atleast of doing the whole project
