Anyone ever had to remove a skunk from you property? We have one that lives somewhere around our home and we cannot even open our windows at night. Do they make traps? What can we do?

How do you catch a Skunk?

I used to shoot em (I suppose I'll get flamed for that one). Many skunks in our area carried rabies. They would wander onto our property quite often. Growing up, I lived on a ranch with horses, dogs, cats, and occasionally a few head of cattle. A (possibly) rabid skunk was a big threat.

If you surprise them and get a clean head shot, they won't spray. But, you have to remember that, when you go to pick up the carcass, the stink-bag is still loaded and ready to go. (Yes, you *can* get sprayed by a dead skunk!) So, bag it very carefully, moving the body as little as possible. Oh, and do it *from the front*!
I called in a guy who trapped it, then released it a long way away.
It was several years ago, and hasn't come back.

Buy a trap or have your local animal control set a trap for you. When it's caught, they will haul it off for you.

this may sound strange , but i've caught more than twenty skunks
over the years , so i speak from experience .
...the trick is to cover the trap with an old sheet or plastic tarp ,
{ VERY IMPORTANT ... if the skunk can't see you , it won't feel threatened },
i might suggest using those large black garbage bags ,
leaving a slit in the material large enough to operate the release handle .
set the trap with dry cat food on a paper plate { this actually works very good ...}
place the trap in the area the skunks are known to frequent .
after you've caught the skunk ,take it at least five miles from your home .
i just put the cage in the back of my truck and it works fine ...
try to remain calm , don't drop the cage or kick it or anything stupid like that ...
they won't spray unless you scare them .
when you release it , they will walk
out of the cage calmly , and in a straight line .
you can let it go free , or shoot it after if leaves the cage , if you feel the need ...
As someone who has trapped before...
if you shoot it with a .22, do NOT shoot it in the head. It will spray every time. Use a .22 short, and shoot it through the heart, right behind the front legs. Once. Mostly, they won't spray if you do it in this way.
Alternatively, you can affix a syringe onto the end of a long pole and fill it with 10cc's of acetone. Inject the skunk. It will get drowsy and go into the big sleep gently.
