How do YOU deal with tailgaters?

The more you go in and out of lanes the more likly you could accidently cause an accident, i.e someone in the blind spot.

I like to just pick a lane, put on cruise control, and zone out. Drive time = mellow time. There is no hurry. Everyones always in a hurry to go nowhere.

That is the exact point. Whether someone is tailgating for no good reason other than their own impatience and inability to control their testosterone. I move over multiple times a day for drivers that want to go by, when there is a safe opening to do so, if they're not impatiently riding my ass. Like I said, consideration begets consideration. How can you say my driving sucks when you've never even seen me drive? Say my attitude sucks if you want, that's fair enough. I think your opinion of other people's driving by what they say online sucks, so it means nothing to me.

Get out of the guy's way if I'm in the fast lane. If I'm in the slow lane, I'll let him pass me. I'll only move back into the fast lane if someone is causing extreme danger by riding my tail and not passing me up, or I'll just pull off to the shoulder until the guy realizes I'm out of his way.


If I'm on a two-lane highway, the last thing I'll do is accelerate in the passing zone, as seems to be the popular trend especially around here. :rolleyes:

Then you are driving properly. I apologize. I can only make judgments "online" by the information you provide here.

If you mis- or under-represent what you are doing, you risk mis-interpretation. I retract my previous assessment.

If your in the fast lane and someone faster comes up behind you, move the crap over.

You are not a cop. Unless you are a cop, then do whatever you want.

...but the rest of you left lane warrior citizens on patrol get out of the friggin way.

OTOH, drivers that give you no time to move and drive at an unsafe disance from your car suck just as much, but you still need to consider the cost of a multiple car pile up and move.

I try to be courteous and give plenty of time as well as move asap when someone is faster then me.

If the person doing the gating is being a tool, I do this...

Make sure my driver's window is down.
Open up my can of Coke.
Move to the right margin of my lane (Mr. Tool will start to move left, trust me!).
Hang my Coke out the window, about door handle height.
Allow the airflow to gently lift the Coke out of the can, in a thin ribbon-spray, all down the side of Mr. Tool's car.

If he doesn't back off immediately, pour a little faster and higher. Either he'll get the picture, or he'll need new paint soon...

It works almost as well as dropping a handful of roofing nails out your window! :D
