How do you decide about your replacements

I`d like to know how you make a decision to buy a replacment pickup. Almost none of the dealers is willing to take back a pickup.
The Fralin dealer is the only one, to let trieout the PUs.
Do you order some bunch of PUs, make your decision which one fits the Bass best and bring the other ones to ebay? I had to do so.
It is a very hard decision, not only depending on reviews, because one thing I know for sure: the PUs sound different in any other bass.
My Villex P-Pup sounds magic in a bass where the Aeros simply do not work, but the Villex does nothing in my P-Bass with the Fralins.
And so on. You only can trieout a few PUs to find the one you like and works.

Buy secondhand and onsell the ones I don't like, or meditate thoroughly on it and take my best guess if I have to buy new. I trust my gut on most things and it 'usually' pays off. If not, as you said, it might sound better in a different bass, and I'm not exactly short of them...

And a lot of research on TB. Hopfully, you will get the results you are looking for. It worked for me, but I guess you will always wonder what might have been with another decision.
