How do you feel about signature models?

I know that the roadworns have a very good build reputation so i would say that they are not my thing but I would take the quality of an mij Geddy Lee or Harris p anytime, for playability and looks. I think if you find a bass that fits your needs go for it.

EXACTLY, even if it is a brand new, beat up looking sig! :bassist:

I've never found one that I particularly liked, but most stores here in NM don't carry them so I haven't had much of a chance. A good bass is a good bass though.

On a similar note I did see an Avril Lavigne signature telecaster in the store a few weeks ago and felt the strangest urge to pull a Hendrix and burn it....

For me all that matters is that the bass is what I want. There are a couple of signature basses I really want to acquire such as the Mike DiAntonio Ibanez Destroyer and the cliff Burton Aria Pro.

Oh yes, they will be mine.

Unfortunately I'm recovering from a busted pipe that flooded my cellar, no stuff in there but a $500.00 plumber bill and probably a $1000.00 deductable on my home insurance to clean it up and dry it out means no GAS for me for a while.

No freakin fair.

Someone help me out here, because I really don't know for sure, but isn't Geddy's sig just a regular Jazz with a BAII bridge and a bound & blocked neck? I'm not knocking it, because it's priced pretty reasonably, but is there more to his sig than I've been led to believe?

I have a Steve Harris P-bass I just bought this year, brand new. Love it. I bought it because I've always liked the color, and the chrome pick guard (as in like since 1984, or 85...). And, since I started playing bass, I've always wanted that bass. As far as custom features, besides the finish, and pick guard....Seymour Duncan pickup, and a badass bridge.

this would be me too. Will probably be a graduation gift to myself this coming spring

I just got the email that the bass I ordered is finally being shipped. I ordered it back in early October but it was backordered.

It's an Ibanez MDB3 Mike D'Antonio sig bass. While I am a fan of Killswitch Engage that was not the reason I bought this bass. I bought it because first and foremost it was an Ibanez and a Destroyer, two things I love in a bass. It has a single pickup, which is something I am greatly into these days, and a single volume knob, the tone trim pot being hidden and recessed on the back. I thought that was very cool and right up my alley as I like just a bit of tone dialed in my sound and rarely adjust it.

I'm pretty excited. I'll post pics of course when I have bass in hand.

I am playing my Marcus Miller IV and V in a Led Zep tribute band and a Fusion band. Got tired of hauling around my Vintage SVT so I'm using a SWR Marcus Miller Pre and solid state 2000 watt amp. No other Pre had the features of the MM Sig and I didn't want to be hauling a $2000 channel strip to gigs. If my vintage Jazz Bass ever got stolen from a gig I'd be devastated so the MM IV was the closest in feel and sound. The MM V is by far the best playing and sounding Fender V I've ever played, it completely blows away every other one I've tried, including the Rosco Beck V. By the way, Marcus Miller spent a considerable amount of time working with fender to get the MM V just right. I think they nailed it. Yes Sadowsky basses are great too at more than double the price. For me its all about what works in the real world. Got an Ibanez GWB-1 on the way thanks to another fine TalkBass member, in his words "the Ferrari of fretless basses". Can hardly wait!

Most of them don't do anything for me as I'm always wondering how close to the bass that X person plays is the sig model and would they actually play the instrument themselves, but there's an occasional one that sneaks through and I think "Why isn't that a standard available model?"

Things like the SB6, Victor Bailey Jazz and the Roscoe Beck Fenders spring to mind.
