+1. My wife calls me useless all the time. It's how I get out of doing the dishes, cooking, washing the dog, washing the car, mowing the lawn, cleaning the house, taking out the trash, and sending cards to our friends.

I'm perfectly ok with it. It usually means that I now have clearance to go take a nap on the couch.

People who make such assertions are typically projecting their personal self image onto you.

I feel sorry for them and that they need to find a way to see life from a more positive perspective. If you feel the need to express such negativity, you are clearly not a very happy person.

If my parents would call me useless I would be hurt really bad. Luckily, they never would do that and I'm always a guy who's trying to be polite and helpful.

If someone who's in the same position like me, a fellow student for instance, would do so, he would receive a lax saying, if he's not going to keep his mouth shut on that issue there'll be some sound bite and if he is totally refusing to do so I'd just quote Hemingway and say "I obscenity in the milk of my uselessness!" and make him see how damn useful I can be by just refusing to do anything for him and enjoy all the sparetime I have now, just like Mike Money put it.
