How do you listen to music?

For me, a lot of times, it's just simply playing a video on YouTube (or Music / Spotify) on my phone where the bass response is not very good. Other times, I'll use Air Pods but between the phone with and without Air Pods, that covers 90% of my listening habits.

my 'TB computer' (and therefore DAW, mixer, stuff) is my main listening location and i happen to have a pair of urei 809 monitors suspended from the ceiling, pointed right at me. about the only other location i'd hear music (for enjoyment) on a regular basis is my car.

edit: i guess i didn't really answer the question! i listen to a lot of youtubes, some spotify, a few CDs/mp3s that have been filed away on hard drives.

usually CD, utube, vinyl and ive got a CD player with a memory stick port that i use in my bike shop.

My main listening station is my desk laptop at home. Then the car, the phone is the 3rd, only used (with earbuds) when I'm out at a diner or some such.

Home stereo system. I'm old school. Linn turntable. Cd deck. Marantz model 30 stereo amp. Klipsch Cornwall IV speakers. SMOKES! (4,000 Lps, 2,000 Cds.)

I listen to YouTube clips on my iPad or my iPod. Most of the time they would be plugged into my AudioEngine A5 speakers or my Polk portable speaker. Sometimes I'm on my AudioTechnica headphones or earbuds.

Oh how I wish I kept my component system from 1989 (I knew what was important when I was 18 lol). It was $1400 back then. Saved up all of my work money for it!

I usually listen through good quality headphones from my laptop or work desktop. Ripped CD's, mp3 downloads or Spotify.

My studio/rehearsal space incudes my laptop and a decent, but not great, set of speakers (old Cambridge Audio 3.1 system) for music listening (vs. a more neutral monitoring setup). I also use a Schiit Modi Uber outboard DAC. I get tunes from a variety of sources; Youtube, Spotify, Soundcloud, CD's and USB media for songwriter's tracks. I will sometimes use headphones (Senn HD280 pro), which are what I use when I'm doing tracks at home.

I also listen to music on my iPhone 11 pro using Shure SE425 buds. I use this mostly when I'm on a long bike ride or working out. I've got about 4k of full fat WAV's on that device, and I try not to put low/med bitrate MP3's into my ears as much as possible.

I also listen to music in the car when I'm in it for more than 20min; mostly CD's, local FM radio and occasionally use Sirius Radio when I'm on long road trips, but I find the quality of the signal to be tiring to listen to for long periods of time.

Home stereo — Polk / Infinity, Pioneer, Technics 1500 turntable, Sony CDP-CE345. This has totally spoiled me for anything else. Hard to listen to music any other way.

Amazon Music, YouTube with phone and headphones. Vinyl and phone via Bluetooth through stereo. In my car again phone or radio.

Home stereo, a very modest Onkyo home theater setup. Into that: AppleTV with whatever apps (mainly iTunes and KEXP) or Airplay if it’s not through an app. Earbuds while working.

EDIT: When my internet is down, just like it is now , I break out CDs/DVDs. Got Primus’s Hallucino-Genetics going right now.

Headphones. Via highish end portable Bluetooth speaker. Through a pc into decent but not studio grade speakers. In the car.

I tend to avoid listening to music over “bad” mediums like tablets and phones. Even a $1000 iPad gets beaten out by a $80 bluetooth speaker, in terms of overall quality.

Use Spotify (and Sirius somewhat) to discover new stuff- and yes I still buy music from artists I want to support. Vinyl also.

Got some really nice monitors recently, the icing on the cake, and, along with a nice little jamo sub, a quadral centre speaker, and two quadral rears, through a yamaha DSP-1 (that's about to be retired and replaced by another heritage yamaha unit, a little less ancient) and a yamaha R-S700 which caters for all the music, served by either an old turntable, an old tape-deck, a hi-fi VCR, a DVD recorder, a phone, my rig, or a computer.

I also have the new smart TV and a few old phillips docks, one by the bed, one front and center, and one in reserve.

This is an absolute gem, despite the antiquated dock.

And there's a number of in-ears and cans — the latest being the AMBEO Smart Headset … "the world’s first intuitive, compact and mobile binaural recording headset." I've barely scratched the surface, there — one drum track. And then there's the system in the prawn trawler (the wagon) — more than adequate. My needs are simple.

For one set up I have a Marshall Stanmore and a Phil Jones Double Four. With an audio feed from a phone or iPad it's a very compact practice rig.

I rarely use headphones anymore. Saving what's left of my ears.
