how do you remember to turn off/unplug your active bass?

For the first time I have an active bass - I keep leaving it plugged in and switched on all night and day! This is going to cost me a fortune in batteries.

Only way around this I can think of is to buy a child smuggled in from Asia or Africa and have them sit by my bass stand, ready to pull out the volume pot when I have finished practicing. But this could work out more expensive (would probably only be cost effective for 5 or more basses).

Any other ideas?

That's real basic.

Do you have trouble concentrating when at work (or school as the case may be...), in conversations and/or trouble learning songs etc?

If you have this issue, you might want to think abut going passive.

If the unplugging the bass is coming without the issues listed...just remember to unplug.

Put a sticky note on your mirror and one in your car taped to the dash.

You can add a kill switch but if you can't remember to unplug a cable then flipping a switch will be a true brain drain for you. Here's the deal, when you turn off your amp make it a habit to unplug you bass. When you have to start replacing the battery every two weeks you'll get it.

Remember that switching your bass from active to passive almost never cuts off the draw the cable makes when inserted- you need to take the cable out every time. You don't need to worry about the active/passive switch- it won't draw power if it's switched to active but not plugged in.

And it's easy to remember to unplug. Either there's a big cable plugged into my bass or not

That's usually easy, cos there's a person there looking at you, which reminds you to reply to them...

If you really have this issue, I'd suggest you go passive.

Aha, interesting - actually when I just got the bass, I wired in a passive switch that did disconnect the battery as well as bringing the preamp in and out of the circuit. I've since changed the pre to a Bart with a push/pull volume pot pre-wired... I didn't consider that it might not be disconnecting the battery... will have to look at the circuit again.

Teach yourself to always put it away in the case. Protects the instrument from unnecessary dings, and ensures that you always unplug the cable...

I wasn't being "funny", just put a couple suggestions in the pot.
And knowing people with said issues and those not being big deals at all if dealt with properly I didn't think much of posting them.

Only kidding, I have a passive P and love it too

The active bass in question is an Ibanez GWB35, and the pickup is very low output, so it really needs the pre, unless I'm going through another pedal or something.
