I don't like this aspect of active basses either -- although I love having the on-board EQ.

I'm not a very deliberate, structured person; I pick up my bass to play impulsively -- when it's the easiest. Life is already cluttered enough with digital housework, like keeping a cell charged, backing up computer files, decoding service plans.
When it comes to music, I want no delays at all to simply playing instantly!

Plugging and unplugging a cord is obviously no big hardship; but otoh, I find that if I have a passive bass sitting on a stand, and already plugged into an amp, I'm more likely to grab it and start playing.

When I find _the_ active bass that I'm sure I'm going to hang onto indefinitely, I'm going to get someone to install a battery defeat switch.
Meanwhile I keep a passive bass always plugged in at home.

You have such a hard life, eh?

Wow this poor guy got piled on thirteen some years ago, but I just woke up to find my active bass still plugged in from last night, and not for the first time, either. It's hard to remember, especially if you're called away suddenly. Not quite like forgetting to put gas in the car, as one commenter suggested; a big yellow icon doesn't flash on my bass to remind me. I'm with 2011 OP!

I get on my wife all the time about leaving lights on and closet doors ajar when not in a room, and worse, accidentally leaving the oven on. Maybe it's some OCD, but I cannot leave doors or windows open, or lights on, or guitars plugged in. It's just second nature.

Then again, I've gotten up from my table to straighten out paintings or signs at restaurants that were slightly crooked.

A real-world issue, no doubt....

Actually, I easily remember to unplug my active basses because I'm afraid of doing damage to the right-angle cable connector and output jack on the bottom side of the bass by carelessly setting the bass on the guitar (bass?) stand.

And on the gig, I'm wireless 99% of the time and my beltpack lives on my, well, belt. So I have to unplug the bass on a break.
