how do you remember to turn off/unplug your active bass?

Only kidding, I have a passive P and love it too
The active bass in question is an Ibanez GWB35, and the pickup is very low output, so it really needs the pre, unless I'm going through another pedal or something.
Ah ok...but that would mean you'd have to turn off the other pedal when you're done playing...sooo much to think about. ;-)
Just sell the "35" and use the P exclusively. Problem solved!
Oh but the pedals are plugged into the mains... who cares about turning them off. Having a huge bill doesn't bother me, only paying for batteries.

I have one more bass too, an upright - maybe I should go all acoustic and be done...
Unless I am completely loaded and pass out in my basement while actually playing my active bass, I never leave it plugged in.
I always leave my basses on a stand, in a case or on the wall.... kinda hard to do when they are plugged in.

And...who is paying for mains electricity where you live?
It wouldn't be an issue for me. If I don't unplug my bass and put the cord away, the cats will chew on the cord.
An alternative approach - if the problem comes from plugging the bass in, try not plugging it in.
Take your alzheimers medicine or train your caretaker to remove it for you (if you can remember this).
Hate to admit it but when I first started trying to learn, I used to have the bad habit of leaving the passive bass I was practicing with plugged in so I would just have to pick it up. When I got my first active bass, I didn't think about the fact that the plug was the switch on that bass....till I killed a couple batteries pretty quick. Always unplug every time I turn the amp off now, though
Batteries aside, you can do some damage if you leave it plugged in and trip over the cable. I've known folks who did this as a beginner. Some mistakes you don't need to make to learn from them.
Don't worry about it. You are inadvertently already teaching yourself to remember to unplug it. After excessive battery purchases, I'm pretty sure you'll remember to start unplugging...

When I put it back in its case. I usually unplug my amp as well from the power because there is only two outlets on the wall near where my rig is and the other band who shares our practice space uses them as well. So it is courtesy and also ever since a power surge caused a computer of mine to blow in the past I am a little more cautious of my electronics. App for that? Probably is one ha ha. Like an alarm or something you can set. If not I smell a developer's opportunity
