The active bass in question is an Ibanez GWB35, and the pickup is very low output, so it really needs the pre, unless I'm going through another pedal or something.

Ah ok...but that would mean you'd have to turn off the other pedal when you're done playing...sooo much to think about. ;-)
Just sell the "35" and use the P exclusively. Problem solved!![]()
Here's the deal, when you turn off your amp make it a habit to unplug you bass.
How do you remember to wipe your...never mind.
Oh but the pedals are plugged into the mains... who cares about turning them off. Having a huge bill doesn't bother me, only paying for batteries.
I have one more bass too, an upright - maybe I should go all acoustic and be done...
