I can't say enough good things about Audix mics. As a sound guy, they're so much easier to get gain from and tweak than a 57 or a 58.

I've been hearing that.

Not to hijack the thread, but are you also using Audix mics on the drums as well? If so, which models?

D6 - Kick Drum (with Crown PZM in the drum)
D2 - Rack Toms
D4 - Floor Tom
i5 -snare top and bottom
ADX51 - Overheads, HH

Sounds like the Audix I-5 is worth checking out. I would like to hear the difference between running direct out (post) and using a good mic. I can swing the $100 for the I-5.

running both a mic on the cab as well as a DI is my personal preference (both as a bass player and sound tech)

In my observation, this is the prevailing practice in clubs, though how these two feeds are used, treated or mixed by the FOH tech varies a lot.

It's a prudent approach with lots of options.

Yea... I usualy start from a slouched standing position and then skip while flailing my arms around like a couple sideways helicopters running amok.

soundmen haven't liked the xlr out of my amps (pre or post)... too much hiss or not enough bass.

this is with nice amps and PA systems

I use a Jensen-transformer for the direct box
