Iit's interesting to hear all you folks using mics. I guess if you carry your own and ask, most sound techs will oblige. Otherwise, outside of a studio, I can't recall being asked if I wanted a mic. It's DI or box, always, even w/my V4B rig :).

Interesting poll - I voted option 3.

I haven't miked up a cab in years. I just use the amp's own DI. On my Markbass combo this is set to post EQ, but in most rooms I run the amp pretty much flat anyway. My main bass has a J Retro and the EQ on that is so well thought out that nothing else is needed for my onstage sound. But with that, as always, a little goes a long way and I don't use drastic amounts of EQ on the bass.

Soundguys who I have talked to have told me that the signal they get needs very little or no EQ. So the whole process is bass - flat amp - DI - desk - FOH with minimal or zero tweaking at each stage.

For guys who like to run their DI pre EQ to send a flat signal to the desk, do you also try to minimise any EQ tinkering on the actual bass itself and then EQ your onstage sound with your rig if necessary? Just curious.

I've always used the post EQ on my old RBI preamp and the soundguys like it. Now I have a Markbass LMII and am hoping it will work that way too. Haven't had a gig with it yet and it looks like it's going to be a while before I do. Anyone have good results with LMII DIs?

Yes. If I'm running an LMII, I will usually DI it, because it usually means I'm not running my home rig and having to plug into inferior speakers compared to my B-15 cabs. No sense micing crappy speakers. And it's post-EQ, although you can switch a jumper to make it pre.

I haven't settled for one way or another, but mostly I don't run my signal to the PA at all. If I do, I use either a DI or mic the cab. I would use the amp's DI more if it didn't have an annoying hiss sound going on all time. No vote...
