I find it very cool how the ∅ switch thickens up the tone when in the up position on the LA-610!

The phase switch. Does the Greek "phase" symbol not show up on your computer? if so, you need a Mac!

yeah, it doesn't show up, even though i am 100% greek. 
funny, i haven't tried that yet, but i will tomorrow. i've heard that the phase switch can have an effect on various input sources. thanks for the tip!

KAAAAAAAHN!
Today that heartless bastard drove me to re-think I all I thought I had learned so far this year and I unplugged a string of crap from my current signal chain. And what I discovered is I really like the sound of my Sadowsky when I leave it the **** alone. No VT, no bi-amp under lap into my fEarful 1515/66+1, no special sauce, just send the Sadowsky signal straight to the amp uncolored using an Ashly compressor as a simple gain stage to match input sensitivity [no compression] into a big iron [set the Crown xti2000 aside] using the stock passive xover.
Sounds great...but you know what does work in the chain even better than nothing... that stupid Avalon.
So I am back where I was when I started thinking I really shouldn't be hauling an Avalon around to bar gigs and I really need more "spice" than a super clean Avalon can give me.
What's worse, you know what I really what to try... and I aint gonna get to try without spending $2k...yeah that's right, that stupid UA preamp/compressor Johnk won't STFU about.
I have come to believe that JohnK is pure evil and his descriptions here of UA bass tones are made only to hurt me.
Round up the usual suspects.

my comments about these high end channel strips weren't specifically aimed at you, but rather just let them fall on others than can understand and appreciate what they can do pursuit of the ultimate bass tone. i've been searching for it for 40 years, and for me, i believe that i finally found it.
and yes, IMO, the Avalon is a REALLY great preamp for bass, i just like the UA a little better due to its size of soundstage, note tracking, and its ability to dial in a little grit if so desired.
again, i will add that the ISA430 MKII was NO slouch either, with its 'bigger than life' punch, clarity and solid smoothness that also blew my mind last night. if i didn't try the UA in the following two sets, i wouldn't have minded playing thru it the entire night at all.
man, i'm just lovin' playing thru these preamps now. now, i can only imagine how it would've sounded if i ran either of them thru my SPL transient Desinger.
