How do you store extra or old strings?

I put mine in sandwich bags, keeps them coiled and sealed. Put the bunch in another baggie with a label. Just wondering what others use.

Not too much, just a subtle hint of hickory and cedar. I’m currently smoking TIs and GHS Precisions. They’ll come out nicely.

Mine get coiled and tossed on a shelf. They fall off the shelf, uncoil themselves, get separated from the rest of the set they belong to, get kicked across the floor, picked up and tossed into a box, sometimes springing free while I'm rummaging through the box looking for something else, tossed into another box, eventually getting coiled again while I wonder what brand of strings they are and why I can only find three of them.

I wish this was satire.

I only keep flatwounds and the last set of rounds, though, so I'm not too worried about oxidation and the like.

In the trash... I tend to use strings beyond the point they shouldnt be used anymore lol... I probably should burn them to protect people and for the good of the environment.

New strings I just keep them in the package in a drawer.

I drop the old set of rounds in my denatured alcohol filled pvc tube. And forget about them until the next string change. Then they get wiped off and coiled, up on the shelf in the closet. Maybe even labeled, which helps me figure out which of the three basses they came off.

Since I’m trying to find the lightest strings possible, there’s way too many used sets of .040 and up. I should get rid of some of them.

New in the package or in the trash. I use the same brand/gauge for the three bass I own and when I think the strings need to be changed, the old ones get thrown away.

I put my old strings somewhere where I „totally will remember that I put ‘em there“ and when I need them I order new ones because I actually totally forgot about those spare strings.

I just keep the new strings in the original packaging. Old strings go in the recycle bin.

I would love to recycle them! I've always wondered if there was a way to re use them for something else,ie: a jewelry project or something creative. but I usually get frustrated and throw them in an old gig bag.
I tried making a cool bracelet out of old bass stings, but ended up hurting myself(punctured) instead. sharp coilly wire isn't very forgiving!

i keep 2-3 used sets each --- of two different brands --- and 'rotate' the oldest sets to the trash. mostly.

I coil them up carefully and put them back in the original packaging, then put them in a drawer. When I open the drawer they have all sprung out of the packaging and gone into a solid tangled mess. You know this syndrome, it happens with your cables inside your gigbag also. I don't know why

My partner has made dreamcatchers out of strings in the past. As for recycling, D'Addario has a recycling program. Either collect them and send a pile of them in for points toward merch, or some stores have collection boxes.
