How do you store extra or old strings?

In a shoebox, with a cardstock label attached to each set identifying the brand and gauge.

I put mine in sandwich bags, keeps them coiled and sealed. Put the bunch in another baggie with a label. Just wondering what others use.

Seehs, some of you guys really take storing old strings seriously! I just throw them in a box and put them on the shelf. Then every 10-15 years or so, I throw the used ones out because it's unlikely I'll ever use them again.

The only strings I keep are flats, and pretty much the same as you (after cleaning), except outer "bag" is a manila envelope.

Old rounds simply get tossed.

What do you mean "unearthed"? This is for new strings, old ones thrown away.

I grew up with Nashville Straights.

If I keep them (most aren't worth keeping) I unbend a paper clip, run it through the ball ends and hang them up somewhere. Usually the inner side of a closet door on the clothes hook. I don't like to coil them up again. I just store them straight.

I've been thinking about uncoiling the sets, tying them together with a .009 string and rolling them up in parchment paper before sealing it tightly.

if they are old I store them in the trash.
