How does a Peavey T-40 Compare To a Jazz?

Well thats not so bad, my Jazz is just shy of 12 pounds so they're about even. I was expecting a monster.
weight seems to be quite an issue with these basses.. but that does not concern me really im all after tone tone tone.. lol
The tone that Alvaro got in that Youtube video is perfect! Tone you want? Tone you'll get!
If you drop a jazz you'll ding it. If you drop a T40 you'll dent the floor.
I have a 90's MIM Jazz and also a 1978 T-40. The Jazz has a slimmer neck and the usual narrow range of *buzz* and usable sounds. The Peavey does not buzz at all, and has a bewildering palette of sound nuances that can be hard to reproduce unless you take notes - and this is a passive bass. Physically, it plays more like a P than a J. The weight is noticeable, but not overwhelming.
The T-40 in question here is mine, and I weighed it at 13+ pounds.
It's heavy but not uncomfortable or anything. It also sustains for ever, with the added huge bridge and string thru body.

A nice wide padded strap should take care of the weight.
Come on, Lads - buck up! Women carry 25+ lbs of baby in front of them for five or six months of their pregnancies. You can't hoist 13lbs of bass for two or three hours?
Maybe you should play guitar instead?
I played one of these from 79 up until about three years ago when I guess age started to be a problem for my back after about two or three hours of hanging that log around my neck. Great sounding, solid, and dependable bass. I sold it to our trumpet player because his eighteen year old son wanted to learn bass with the promise that if he didn't stick with it I could buy it back. It didn't get played much after I started collecting Laklands though.
I'm more kidding than anything - I love the fact that my Peavey Millennium Plus 4 weighs 9lbs.
My old T-40 weighted just under 14 pounds. I like heavy basses but that was too much. I don't like sitting down playing and did not want a "Studio" only bass. Plus the neck was too wide.

Can't really comment on the comparison between the jazz and the t-40. I just picked up the t-40 about 5 hours ago. It is amazing. My eyes have been opened the amazing range of tone you can get is wild. I have been play a epi thunderbird so i didn't have a wide range to play with from the start. The plus side though is that the t 40 doesn't seem that heavy after playing my thunderbird. In my opinon if it is in good shape get it. You will be happy. ( here are some pics)
