I've never been able to be objective when listening to other bassists. I always hear them doing cool stuff that I can't or don't do.
I’ve been playing for 13.5 years and am terrible. I was probably at my prime 5-6 years in, but started struggling with reasons why I play and have been less determined ever since.
I’m a moderately functional bass player. I can play rock and roll songs. I can play some funk. I have a sense of rhythm. I don’t suck. But there’s no soul to my playing. No creativity. I can play songs that already exist. I can’t come up with anything on my own.
