How Is Geddy Lee Getting This Tone?

I have a Rick run stereo, Ashly preamps with distortion mods, Rotosounds, and I hit the strings very hard, but I'm still not sure how he's getting this tone.

In the clip above at the 2:53 mark you can clearly hear his bass. Any insight or theories regarding finding this tone is much appreciated.

No mystery, its the way he attacks the strings. His fingers look loose and a bit crazy but when they hit the string you can be sure the energy is focused and controlled , thats why some players sound so different..its a personal thing really.
I've always tried to sound like TM Stevens..can I, hell no.
