Silly me. I didn't realize metal bands other than the "old school metal" (Iron Maiden) even had bassists. Well, rock on then.
Well, up to this point I've recorded my music with no bass guitar and I'm just finishing up my 3rd album XD
Get two of the 210XLs, stack vertically, Rock.
Right?! Lars doesn't even have the bass in his monitor; just rhythm/Hetfield. He also plays to a click tho....
Heck of a lot better than my first rig. But I agree with others in that I would get the 4-10 if it were my only cab.
Hey, Welcome to TalkBass!!!!
David Ellefson approves of the Kelly Bird, and so do I. A good bass for Metal!
When you get it, make a NBD (New Bass Day) thread and post pics.
In all seriousness, I wish bass was louder in metal. I love bands like Megadeth where you can actually hear the bass. It's death metal where it's low, I listen to a band called The Haunted a lot and I have to focus all my attention on the bass just to hear what's going on there. My music could really do with a slightly distorted, grindy kind of bass tone. I might get a bass big muff, those things sound awesome.
Unless you have significant FOH support, or a high end cab, for gigging, your minimum rig should be (IMHO):
- 300 watts of power
- 4 10s, 2 12s or 2 15s
You Will NOT get a lot low end With "only" a 210 cabinet.
Just my opinion

I don't know, I gigged with Avatar 210s and I had an Ernie Ball Music Man 210, thing was as heavy as a 410...both did fine on my four string. Might be different for metal, or for heavy use of octave-pedals, but I think a quality 210 can stand by itself for most kinds of music at sane volume levels, especially for beginners. You can always add another 2x10 down the road. (I'm using a Phil Jones 4x5 now, people think I'm lying when I say I'm NOT using the PA. Go ahead. Find the wire...)The head is ok but the 210 XL is a not the Best choice imo.
Consider to use a 410 XL or 410 VX cabinet instead or you could use the 210XL and a 115 XL.
You Will NOT get a lot low end With "only" a 210 cabinet.

Yeah, stairs will definitely be involved, 3 staircases to be exact from my front door to my bedroom, plus a sharp turn on the last staircase. I would love to get 2 2x10s, the problem is I have so much to save for next year, it's my girlfriend's birthday, I have to save up for a visit to her in the middle of the year (we're long distance, it's expensive) plus I have to save up for university too. So I could get 1 2x10 now and get another in a few years. I'll start the band after university anyway so it's not like I'm desperate for a gigging rig right now, just something I can use for home and recording. Thank's to all of you for your advice. If I can, I'll go used, if not I'll get the 410VX.
