how long can flatwound last

Joe Osborne had the same set of LaBella 760Ms (like Jamerson used) on his famous Jazz bass from around 1961 until at LEAST 1975 when he was profiled in Guitar Player Magazine. Probably longer, and in fact that bass might just still have that set of strings on it.

Have had some for a couple of months and they still sound new.
BTW, you could drop the preposition at the end of your sentence.

Also, I still have the original flatwounds that my EB-0 came with when it was bought used in 1973.

i have a little vintage korean bass from the early sixties and it seems the original flats just keep sounding sweeter and sweeter as they age. like a fine wine

My friends inherited his g'pa's '63 P-bass which had the same flats on it since around '78 I think he said. They're still on there now, and I played it about a month ago and holy crap, they are amazing. My oldest bass with flats is 12 years old. It's a 96 Squier P, another friend bought it off me, it has the same flats since it was purchased with still on it.
