How long did you have your 1 bass for?

I still have my first bass. It is a Peavy Patriot. It is in peices. I took it apart in 2001 to fix it up, and I never put it back together. Actually, that is not exactly true: I did put it together a while ago and it did not make a sound, so I took the pick gaurd off and the electronics out and never got around to figuring out what was wrong with it -- I'm a procrastinator and not the most electronically savy person. One of these days I'll have it playing again.

my first bass was an Ibanez GAXB150 that my dad bought new in 2005 or 2006. I got my next first "good" bass 3 months later; a Squier PJ.

I actually had my first bass, a "Pro Session" (of which it was neither ) Precision copy for just over three years. It was my Xmas present when I was a Freshman in High School, and by my Senior Year I had participated in two "Battle Of The Bands" as well as jam sessions and some home recording so it was apparent that this was going to keep... my Xmas gift that year from my parents was to help pay for a "Mint Used" Ibanez SR-800, which I used in my original band at the time for numerous demo recordings and live gigs for 4 solid years before adding an SR-1206 six-string to the table - I had the 800 defretted a few years later and it became my gateway to fretless basses. It's currently "on loan" to a friend who expressed the desire to learn fretless as well, but it's the bass I'd never sell.

...as for the "Pro Session", I first applied some tacky graphics to it, and then attempted to defret it with absolutely no experience. Into the rubbish the rubbish went. Truly, people who started playing bass within the last 10 years or so have had a huge advantage as to the quality of their instruments.

I had my first one a $99 National bought in 1975 for about a year until I upgraded to an Aria Jazz clone that was awesome... it cost me around $279 back then a fortune for me at age 13...

Still have my first bass for about 8 or so years now. It's an Epiphone Power Bass. Apparently they're pretty rare, I assume it's for the reason that they sound like trash. It plays nice. I don't think I'll ever get rid of it just for sentimental value, but it definitely doesn't "call me" in the night to play it. These days it spends most of it's time in the case. (Except for some trips down memory lane, I'll pick it up and give it a go on it's 7yr old roundwounds.)

Hey everyone,
I was just wondering how long you had your first bass for. I am talking about a beginner bass not your first good one. I've had mine for a year now and it was 99 bucks. I just cant find a good bass that I like that is in my price range otherwise i would have a different one. I was just curious to see how long you all could hold out before needing a new bass.

I had mine for maybe two months. However I bought it used off of the bay and it ended up having a bow in the neck. Not very playable. My second one I had for several years.

When I was starting out, I had a '93 Samick P. Maple neck, red body. It was a good beginner bass but absolutely nothing special. The pickup was pretty poorly made, and one half of it would randomly fall out of the cover. All in all I think I had it for 4 years?

After I bought my "S8" '82 Fender Jazz it didn't get much play, and I eventually traded it in on a MIJ Ibanez RG six-string.

My first bass was a Kalamazoo. Considering it was right-handed and I'm not, I'd say I owned it for too long. I don't remember for sure, but I had maybe 3-5 months before I bought a lefty with my tax return, and got rid of it immediately after that.

First was a P-Bass knock-off called a Harmony, ordered out of Bennett's Blue Book. Black with yellow racing stripes, body was about 2 inches thick, strings 1/2-inch off the neck and it weighed a ton. Really, not a very playable instrument compared to the starter grade stuff out there today. But, it came with DiMarzio pickups and actually sounded pretty good.

I played that for about a year till my dad bought me a 78 P-Bass (new), which is still my one and only today.

OK I will probably beat the record: ONE DAY.

I bought a used Precision copy and, on the second day, the strap came off from the lock neck side and the bass fell from 45 degrees up, to 45 degrees down and the neck broke.

I had a bad "Oh noooo" moment, holding my head.

I then decided to buy another bass and to move on. The issue is I did not have any money left, so I bought something cheap (and bad).

The parts from the broken bass went to upgrade the new bass.

My first bass was a '83 Fender P. I was a guitar player for 5 years when I started playing bass. I doubled on bass for about 2 years so I didn't go "beginner". I played the P for 12 years before I moved to 5 stringed basses. I still have it.
