How long did you have your 1 bass for?

I still have my first bass a 60's Klira made in Germany. My Dad got it for me form my B-day in '71. A lot like a Hofner maybe even better. The one on the left is my first one

Nice! I'm always surprised to see that some people had such nice first basses. My first bass looked and sounded like a turd with thick strings.

My first bass was a '72 Fender Jazz Bass which I purchased in early '81 for $300. It has a maple neck with pearl inlays, ivory body, and tortoise-shell pickguard. Still have it!

First bass was a Ibanez Axstar 4 string. I bought it 12 years ago from a pawn shop for $175 in mint condition. Not a scratch on it! I've been a drummer for 25 years and even though I bought the bass 12 years ago to learn to play bass I only recently took it seriously and started to actually learn to play it. I still have the bass and I am currently getting it refinished. I also play a Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray but prefer the Axstar because it's so light and never goes out of tune. Can't wait to get it finished.

Used doubleneck Aria EBO3 bass & SG guitar. For around $350 including hardshell case. Upgraded the guitars pups with dimarzios, bass side allready had gibsons. Bought in 1974. Kept it as my one and only for 4 years. I was 14 when got it.

Like a week seriously. I had a squier strat and I was decent. I was about 11, then I got this sweet ibanez bass. My father criticized me claiming I couldn't play anything when in reality the bass was real natural for me. It fit me well. So I felt bad and asked him to sell it. Then I got a bass again and I always had this feeling in the back of my head like I should play guitar instead of bass. Now I'm 19 and I finally realized my dad was probably drunk and its not important what he thinks cause hes gone. and he was gone then too.

i still have my dave cruise made for vmi bass. got it about 4 years ago. bought my 2nd bass this christmas. my dave cruise still sees about 75% of my play time cause it just feels like butter, sounds ok, but the playability (so far) hasn't been beat.

I had my first bass before purchasing my second one for about a year, it was a westfield p-bass (a cheap 190 quid fender rip-off) great bass to start on, i still have it now, but it serves as a fretless as i had a guitar technician file the frets down.. it sounds pretty good!

A 1979 Peavey T-40 popped my cherry when I was 14. I had the natural/maple bass for about a year.

I soon came to the realization that I could never be Geddy Lee until I had a black-and-white Ric 4001.

Fortunately, that's all it took to reach my goal, and I have been the bassist for Rush since.

Seriously, though...I rued the day I sold my first bass for $100 to help finance the '80 Ric, which I still have and love. I could have just shoveled 10 more driveways and had them both, but back then, the idea of having a second bass was proposterous! I was fortunate enough to find another 1980 T-40 a few months back. It isn't the standard natural/maple like my original, but it's a beautiful SiennaBurst with rosewood fingerboard.

This time, I'm keeping it! By the way...I still have the poster!

My first bass was my first good bass. 1975 Fender P bass. Had it up until 2007 when I sold it.
