I got lucky my dad bought me a peavey rudy sarzo at a pawn shop for 200 bucks and it was almost brand new I still have it and thats going on 16 years.

My first bass was a Tanglewood P-bass copy. I think I used it 3 or 4 years before I bought a new one! (it ain't the worst beginners bass though). I still have it, and I'm never going to sell it! (had it for about 7 years now)

I had my Yamaha RBX for 2 years before I bought a new bass. The new bass I bought was an acoustic bass (due to being in an acoustic group).

We got a show in Brooklyn and all drove from Pittsburgh to Brooklyn in a VW Golf. There wasn't room for a third acoustic, so I brought the RBX (now pretty frankenbass-ish).

So technically, roughly 5 years after I started playing bass I was still using my first bass.

No, my first is looooooong gone and I really cant say that I miss it.
It was a late 70's Japanese P-bass knockoff with some weird looking pickup in it. I got it right around the holidays in 1979 or possibly in very early 1980. I kept it for about 2 years and traded it toward a Kramer Duke.

OT-this has got to be a record "zombie thread". It was created in 2000, was dormant until 05 and now returned from the grave once again.

My first bass was a Kay SG knockoff. Transparent red, with the pickups being mounted right to pickup covers (like a guitar) that were broken. I jerry-rigged them with small pieces of plastic that I had drilled holes in (hey, I was 16 at the time and didn't know where to get replacement parts). It had a very dead tone, which I didn't know was due to flats being on the bass. Paid $40 to a friend of mine for it, and sold it about 2 years later for the same price. For some reason, I was happy with an Ibanez EX.

To be honest, I'd actually like to have that Kay bass back. I can't even find photos of it online.

19 years and I still have it

My dad owned a music store in the 70's and 80's, and he played in a wedding band at the time. When he finally sold the store and stopped playing in '86, he put his Cutlass 1 into retirement and stuck it in the garage. Three years of hot summers and cold winters went by with that thing in the garage until I decided to start playing around with it. Damn thing was still in tune. I love that graphite neck

I don't play it much anymore since I'm mostly using 5ers, but I don't think I'd ever let it go.

My first bass was a good one, although I didn't appreciate it at the time. My mom bought that used Peavey T-40 for me in '86 and I sold it in '89. The pic is from '87.

Losing the bass was bad enough, but losing the amp was a severe kick in the gonads. It was a Blackfront Fender Bassman 50 with the 2x15 cab

I had my first bass for about 2 years before I got a Fender P in 1977. The first bass was a $25 Sekova hollow body (Fender Coronado knock-off) in baby blue. It was horrible and I never played it again.

I had a Squier Affinity P for 6 months, and sold it in lieu of an Ibanez GSR200. Sold that and now I'm rockin' another Squier Affinity P and Affinity Jazz V.

My first bass is a MIM Fender Jazz, in midnight wine. I still have it and it is my main bass, although it's got a few upgrades (black pickguard, Badass II bridge, SD Antiquity pickups)

was a fender, tobacco juice white (lots of bar gigs) pbass from 1968. I put on a Jazz neck and added a G-string pickup because it wasn't sustaining like I wanted. BaddAss bridge. Had it as my only bass for 25 years. traded it in for a Tobias custom IV 5 string. traded that for my current Smith 6.

My accoustic is some German flat back that I've had for 30 years.

Second was a '73 Jazz. Still have it.

Have never found a bass I like better than that Jazz.

Got a 1963 Fender P in 1967 - still have it. Refinished in 1972 or thereabouts....neck replaced about that time, too.
