How long have you been playing bass?

I went to a music store called C&S music to buy a bigger amp after my divorce in 1978. I was playing bass in a garage band with a 100 watt Fender Bassman Ten, and my fingers were raw from trying to be heard among Fender Twin Reverbs. The drummer was the lead salesman, the music teacher there was the singer/guitarist. And his best student was the lead guitarist. The salesman lured me to his house that evening with the promise of a great deal on a Cerwin/Vega bass amp. When I arrived I got to play the amp in a band situation with these guys. They all left the room and when they returned, they asked if I wanted to join a band. They had me playing professionally in one month. I have been playing ever since. Sometimes in three different bands at the same time. Funny thing is all I really set out to do was play in a garage band HA!;)

While I've had various basses in my possession since 1970 my "playing time" has been very on and off since then. Played from 1970 thru 1982 and then barely picked it up for the next 11 years. Played from 1993 thru 1996 and then didn't play it at all for the next 12 years. Started back at it sometime in late 2008 but really didn't get going again until January of 2009.

I started playing trombone back in elementary school. When I was 12 years old, I decided that I wanted to play bass. As soon as I picked up an old Fender Precision in a guitar shop and plucked the E string, I was addicted. I'm turning 17, and I still can't go a day without picking up the ol' four stringer.
