How long have you been playing bass?

42 years. Bought my first electric in '68 @ 12 yrs old.
Played standup in orchestra for 3 yrs before that.

Me too! But I was 14 in '68....bought a hollow body St. George bass that year. Had also been playing string bass since 4th grade.
I have an uncomfortable feeling that I'm not that much better now than when I was in high school...

Regularly for 8 years, on and off for the next 25 and back at it for the last 10. I'm just starting to catch on.

Started in '68, played for 10 years, then took a long break (should NEVER have stopped playing) and started again a three years ago, playing the same tunes, only now it is called classic rock!

Playing since Nov. I can play scales pretty well, and I can play "Have You Ever Seen the Rain?" by CCR. I've found that you start wanting a better bass about 30 sec. after you learn your first real song. Mabye that's just me.

I started 1989 while in H.S.. I stopped 4 years later because I thought I wasn't going anywhere with it. I thought I was unable to learn. Then a about 4 years ago i got an itch to play again and did some research and realized that I was the victim of bad teaching back in H.S.. All I read about bad teaching was what i was learning back then. I now have a real bass teacher and I learn more in a month than I did in the whole 4 years back then.
Sorry guys I am rambling. So to answer the question? Attempted to play for 4 years then put it down for 14 years and picked it back up almost 3 years ago. I kind of regret giving up all those years, but I was a kid. What did I know?
