How long will you play?

Most gigs over the years (70's 80's 90's etc) here in South Australia were 4 or 5 hour bookings so 40 - 45 mins on, 15 mins off was about the standard.

I don’t mind playing a full hour before taking a 15 min break, but we more often play 45 min and break for 15.

I’ve played at one venue where the mgmt requested we take our first break at a specific time to help them in taking food orders before they closed the grill. Others wanted us to take no breaks in the final hour. A few places wanted us to play a full hour the first set & then take breaks as we wanted for later.

The bands I’ve been in have tried to accommodate any requests from mgmt. I don’t recall getting any unreasonable requests, but I’ve heard of some from other bands….

I saw a band yesterday and they played for 3 hours straight doing mostly medley's!! How long do your bands play before taking a break........if you do take a break??? I kept looking at my watch and shaking my head.

We do one hour sets. When I’m prepping for a show, I usually practice at home a minimum of 2 hours each session. Band rehearsal run about 3 hours.

45mins or 1hr depending on fee and standard practice or the venue.

I find most bands have a 2hr limit unless truly exceptional so therefore the music is window dressing and not an event.

We seem to have fallen into a habit of trying to jam 50 songs into one night...I and my shoulder have complained!! Works out at about £1 per song. Good job we do it for 'fun'...
