How loud was the Big Bang?

A physics video that says among other things:

- The sound of the Big Bang was 50 octaves below a guitar string

- Manowar are louder than the Big Bang

- The sound of the Big Bang couldn't be heard until over 300,000 years after it happened.


A little birdie once told me there is no sound in space. So I guess it made as much sound as your bass did while you were not practicing and instead posting this thread.

Sound travels readily through many different substances. Even humans can hear sound under water.
Admittedly, I didn't watch the video before making this post. I however have since watched said video. So I'll add:

An effective way to create a soundproof room is to create an air gap. That is, hard exterior wall, air space, and internal wall (not connected to outer wall). In the video, there is the claim that there would be pockets of matter, of all types. I would assume these different types would come in different densities. And that being the case, once the bangs sound wave reached a change in density, it's power would be greatly diminished, if not nullified completely. So, assuming a sound was made, unless you were at the point of the bang, it's doubtful the sound would be heard.

Furthermore, there is a big hole in logic, and that is, there was no atmosphere or matter in the space at the time of the bang. The matter/atmosphere from the bang was created from the bang itself. When you hit a bass drum, there is an atmosphere around the drum from which the sound can travel. The bass drum does not create atmosphere for its sound to travel through. The atmosphere is fixed. Since the atmosphere/matter created from the bang would be every changing/spreading apart at a very high rate of speed, and sound travels very slowly, there can be a very certain assumption that this spreading of matter would cause any sound wave created to be muffled/dissipated, much like a wave in a pool would be dissipated by a splashing child.

Yeah, what jumps out at me most obviously that says "nor true" is the part about it not being heard until 300,000 years later. Hearing requires ears. There were no ears in existence anywhere in the universe a mere 300,000 years after the Big Bang. If even if there were, we would have no way of knowing about them.

What I find fascinating is that we have no idea what the laws of physics were before the BB... they might have been entirely different, or not yet created. Certainly, if extant, they were not manifested. Phenomena prior to the BB are wholly unknowable to us. And always will be. It is the impenetrable wall of knowledge.

It's possible that the "laws" of physics have come into being on an ad hoc basis over time after the Big Bang, essentially inventing themselves spontaneously, the universe making up the rules as it went along. There's a book called "The Recursive Universe" that might be of interest to anyone who likes this kind of stuff, as I do.

50 octaves lower than a guitar? If you want to hear it, you have to stand 3 light years away just for the wave to develop.

You hear frequency not wavelength, so you'd have heard it right by the singularity out of which the entire universe exploded. If you'd existed. And had ears that would respond to less than 1Hz.
 
In the first 100 billionth of a second following the birth of the universe from a singularity, almost all of mass was self annihilated in quark/anti quark collisions. The one billionth of the mass of the original big bang mass that was not annihilated ecpanded at relavistic speeds to form the universe which cooled to form the universe we have today.

In a thermonuclear device, only a small amount of the fissile/ fusion mass, on order of 10 grams or so is "annihilated, but an enormous amount of energy is released as per E=mC^2. The energy burst of gamma and hard x ray from a mass 100 billion times the mass of our current universe is unimaginable.

There is no "right by" the singularity. You are either in the singularity or you don't exist. It's not like the singularity expanded into empty space; the space itself did not exist.

I love theoretical physics, but it makes my head hurt.
