How many 'always on' pedals are in your chain

Like plenty of folks, it seems three shall be the number of the counting.

I keep them in the top row of my board, as they don't ever get stomped on. Frees up the bottom row for things I'll be turning on/off over the course of the gig.
Just remember, three is the number of the counting.

always on, let me think...
- comp (DG hypeluminal)
- noise gate (EHX silencer)
- eq (MXR 10 band)
- pre (DG microtubes B7K ultra), with just a very little grit, but used and intended as a clean pre at the end of my chain, since i play ampless on my gigs that works as DI box too
- Hum cancelling (Vintek ground loop killer), this have not a switch it's just a circuit which eliminates electric hums/buzzes etc

Either none or one, depending on whether I am using a compressor or not. I don't have any pedals that I consider to be part of my stock tone for most playing situations.

And, well, OK, the amps I use are mostly EBS with a built-in compressor that I do just leave engaged a bit. Does that count as a pedal?
The Cali76 is pretty much the only one that I keep on. I like my tube amp so no need for a preamp but a HP/LP Filter is of interest.
The Cali76 is the first compressor that I have been gaga over. It "fattens" the tone and (the way I set it) it leaves a lot of dynamics.

When I was gigging it would be Seymour Duncan Doubleback Compressor, and the SansAmp PBDDI for EQ and gain (first channel set clean-ish). Everything else was 'as needed' except for a really noisy OD pedal that I kept out of the chain with a homemade looper. If I needed the pedal on, I used the looper to bring it in (Sounded INSANE with a BassBalls). The compressor adjusted overall volume too.
2: Eden Glowplug tube boost, Eden WTDI.

I use an original Radial Bassbone on one board, then a Lehle Basswitch on another, both serving as the hub/routing center of each, if that counts. Other than the EQ options those provide, the only other box that matches your requirements is either a Markbass Compressore or Becos CompIQ, but that's more for the benefit of whatever octave pedal is placed right after it. Octave, and everything else is on/off, as needed.
As there are separate tuner outs on both pre's, my tuners(Korg or TC)are always on, but I never count a tuner as a "pedal", as it doesn't modify the sound of a bass.

Not counting a tuner, I'll never ever play with my band without a SansAmp of some sort (BDDI V2 or VTDI, got both).
My pedalboard also has a comp (Keeley Bassist) and an OD (Darkglass VMT) so I obviously do play with them sometimes, but most times I only take a SansAmp to practice, and it is always on. I can't stand the sound of a "dry" bass without the SansAmp.
