I have two. A sWR La-15 which was the first amp I bought once I started playing again. I do not really use it any more but at one time I left it at our bandleader's house touse as a practice amp for rehearsals. Now we rehearse at the church.so I use my SL900 through an Avatar B212. For gigs I run it through an AccuGroove Tri115. That's it for me..

I keep swapping amps. The last three or four have sounded pretty similar once I got them tweaked to my satisfaction, so I guess it's more about satisfying myself, than the audience.

Also, I have chronic back trouble, so I have a strong bias towards small/light/loud gear.

I currently get the closest to the tone in my head, with a G-K MB800. Out of the dozens I owned, borrowed or rented, it's my favourite amp of all time.

At the moment, I'm still hanging onto the runner-up, a Genz Benz Streamliner 900. Partly for backup, and also because of the stellar tube DI.

When the G-K MB Fusion 800 hits local stores, I may take a look at it, with the idea of having it replace one of the others.

This is pretty interesting post, I know a lot of people that have this issue, they have a lot of rigs, basses and amps, some of theme because they really don't know what they are looking for and some just because like to collect.
For me, I like to have different basses for different tone styles but this doesn't mean that I have 20 basses, I prefer to have 4-5 basses that resume all the different kind of tones that todays are available, because at the end, the basses I use are always the same. Other staff are just collection tools or a rare use ones.
For amp when you have a couple of preamp style tones that can offer different sounds possibility what do you need more?
Amp and cabs just depending from what kind of live/studio gig you play!

After literally decades of searching, I am finally happy (at the moment at lest) with my amps, although I would like to pick up a few more. I went through some significant financial issues recently and had to sell a bunch, but would like to pick a few more up ...

I have easily owned 50-60 amps in my lifetime, so needless to say i have done a lot of searching. Here's my current list and my wish list, and why.

Acoustic Image Contra Combo with Contra EX extension cab - I use this for URB gigs and small coffee shops with ERB

Markbass LM Tube 800 - i fell in love with this the first time I heard it. 800 watts is plenty to get the job done for just about any gig, it's small, lightweight, and I love the sound

Aguilar DB359 - for when I need that tube tone. Best sounding amp that I have ever heard, period. This one may be on the block however to fund more purchases, since i rarely use it (200 watts is a little under powered for my needs)

Markbass 102P combo - every bassist needs a good combo. Lightweight, sounds great, and very portable. I use mostly for medium sized gigs and jam sessions. Easy to set up an self contained

1 Markbass 102P Traveller cab - used as an extension cab for the combo and for the Aggie.

Pair of Epifani UL 2x10's - my "stack" if you will. Lightweight and I have never heard better sounding speakers.


I would like to pick up the following soon:

Another Markbass 102P Traveller cab - for a small, portable, lightweight "stack" that can fit just about anywhere

An Eden WTX-500 - because i miss that Eden sound and to pair with a single 2x10 cab if desired (flexibility)

Later on in the GAS list is an Eden WT-800 (to replace one that i sold - i miss it terribly) and a higher powered tube head - prob an Ampeg SVT-II Pro, but not 100% sure on this. Will put the Aggie up FS for this one.

Other than that, i think I am fairly happy, at least for awhile.

Fender bassman 100t and Fender 610 neo. Ive have never heard nothing sweeter in my life but.......i have not owned many amps..... crate 112 combo (a real pos but got me playing bass) then a hartke a70. this i still have. great lil combo for practice. very flexible and i love the limiter. Then after a 5 to 7 yr hiatus from playing regularly (meaning gigging and practicing to where i would improve), due to traveling/following bands and summer festivals and a drug addiction, i bought my first "big rig".. Goliath III and a fender rumble 350. Often i would run my vtbass or bddi in the effects return only utilizing the power amp because the tone was so so but it was Perfect to get back into playing/practicing and gigging. But then i started researching amps and gear religiously and i was dead set on all tube goodness and got just that with the 100t/610 neo. Its like the amp is "alive" compared to my other amps. it plays with u. the notes are so clear and articulate but can also put the perfect amount of hair when u want. i was never a gritty/dirt tone lover but quickly digressed when dial it in on my amp. every time i look at my amp i want to play to hear how good it sounds!!! being sober a yr this last sept ive focused my energy on playing and having this setup is inspirational and has dramatically improved my playing at home and in the band situation. But my obsession with amps has not let up. i live in this amp forum. I gas for a fearful 15/6/1 and a micro/class d amp. although i dig the hell outta the PF350 and pf115he. from what ive read and heard....tone for days and sexy as hell!! def building that 15/6/1 tube this spring/summer tho.

I have a GK MB115 combo for home practice. My cabs consist or Aggie GS212, Aggie S410, Fender 610 Pro. All cabs are 4 ohm. I use either a GK MB500, or a Drivercore 1500 in stereo for dual cabs, and currently using a BBE Bmax pre. Or I bridge it into a single cab (mostly the Fender) for headroom. The Aggies were an accidental pairing. They sound great together. But tonight I did something different and ran both the 610 and the 410 together stereo. It was crazy cool. The Aggie hung right there with the fender. I didn't hear too much of a volume disparity, but the Fender was a bit louder. Simply lowering the level 1 notch paired them nicely. I think it would be easy to pair these two, keeping in mind the Aggies tolerance for max output would be somewhat less than the Fender cab. Either way, the Aggie was not being pushed anywhere near max and the tone from the pairing was clean and LOUD. I will finally admit that right off the bat, all of the 10's together did have a superior tone to either 10" cab matched with the 212. So tone preferred was: 1. 610+410 2. 610+212 3. 410+212. Now I want a second 610 Pro, but can't imagine a venue where it would be needed. In my band so far, I push the house 100% of the time. This past weekend was my best live tone ever. Human Base X.OC5 thru a Darkglass B3K into the MB500 over the 610. Pretty loud gig and the MB had lots of room left on the dials. I'm pretty happy now, but would like the same tone in a lighter rig without having to sell a kidney.
