How many amps do you guys own?

Right now, I have three amps:

My main rig is a Mesa TT800 and Subway 115 cab. I love this setup. It gets every tone I need.

Markbass Little Mark Vintage and MB Ninja 212. This is a great, warm rig, really loud, but it will be leaving as I can't justify keeping it as I'm no longer using it.

Ampeg BA108 - a small, inexpensive practice amp that works great.

Interesting about amp life spans. I've never had an amp head die.

Differences in modern design approaches and use cases versus older. Stuff that is harder to repair, or more costly to repair than is worthwhile, would likely be considered “dead” when something fails. If it’s going to cost almost as much as a new amp to diagnose a fault and replace a major component like a power supply/power amp board, and you can only have work done through an authorized service center a few hours drive away, I think a lot of people are going to wash their hands of said product and potentially the brand. Class D stuff has gotten so small, powerful, and cheap that it somewhat allows this practice to take hold. Older more expensive amps may be just as costly to repair should a similar fault happen, but the perception of value is different.

I’ve had amps die. Major component failures like power transformers. But they were worth repairing so I did so.

At on point I think I had 10+.

I once owned the entire GK line. Yes the new “current” line. Legacy’s and fusions.

I’m down to 4 keepers.

Two(2) Mesa Subway D-800+ Heads. I had the TT-800 and the WD-800. Did not get along with em and set them free.

Two(2) Epifani UL901s.

Not the same (but close) to the Mesas. Great tone. Rack mountable. 2 ohm stable. And 1000 watts.

Normal stage giggable amps, 2. An ancient Peavey Mark VI that's perfect but not going to be used live as it's too heavy for me now, and not worth selling, and a HB Block 800.

I have 2 small practice combos as well that I use around the house.

I see no need for any more.

Currently in my possession I have a Quilter BB800 powering a GR Bass AT 212 Slim cabinet and a Mesa TT-800 going into two 115 Subways cabs. They both sound great together.

I am awaiting delivery of two custom made GR Bass AT 212 Slim combos, both with One800 amps built in. I ordered them almost a year ago and conveyed to Gianfranco that if he would be willing to build the combo I would buy two to make it worth his while. Last I heard they have reached port and need to go through customs. If the combos work out as well as I hope then I may need to do some reshuffling of the amp gear.

I find myself trying to make the smaller amps sound just like the one with the 15" speaker.
The R15 is only useful for my U-bass in the ukulele group I play with. You can't give that amp away these days.

After reading a recent thread about amp life spans and how/why they are replaced, I started wondering how many amps people might have laying around. Could be a lead sled, tube head, combo, PA system, repurposed guitar amp or something else entirely. How many things do you have laying around that can drive a cabinet and you use for playing bass?

Stories and rundowns encouraged!

Just a combo! I’ve told this “story” before but I had built up to a pair 410HE cabinets and an SVT6-PRO when I was playing a lot with a band that had a toy PA. We played outdoors a lot and the mix was hopeless with that thing, so I ended up going straight to the stack. Then we got a better PA and I picked up an MB212 combo. Haven’t looked back.

Joined a different band in 2020 with a real PA and sold all my big stuff. Some kid in a metal band was very happy to get both cabs (I practically gave him him the second one) and somebody else bought the head. Best move ever.

Sold all my big stuff. Using an Ampeg RB210. I have an old Fender BXR300C combo that is too heavy, but is the best sounding amp I’ve ever played through. So that’s two, but I have a marvelous Joe’s 15 cabinet and Andy’s new little Subway head is screaming “ You need me Stewie”. I kinda think he designed it just for me, since he even added a USB outlet on the back for my wireless

Three at the moment:

- Genz Benz Intro 50 Combo. Seldom used, but couldn't resist picking it up locally a couple years ago for $40. Solid little practice/bedroom combo, and a slice of Genz history.

- Fender Bassman 150 12" Combo. I was looking for a solid amp to leave at our practice space and found a super deal on a used one. Killer amp - great sound, versatility, and it's louder than you'd think. I've taken it out a couple times to do smaller gigs and it really delivers.

- EBS Reidmar 750. Main gigging head for a few years now, paired with either an Epifani UL210 or Tecamp M212. Absolutely beastly - gobs of power, great DI, very useful tonal shaping. I've yet to go past 9:00 on the master volume for any gig.

my trusty old markbass SD800 made in 2007 that i bought used around 2008 or 09.

been with me through it all. was serviced once around 2015, and now is making some noises and needs another.

only other amp is my markbass 2x6" combo amp i use for teaching. great little practice amp!

been considering flipping some gear to buy an all tube amp just as part of the collection, though...
