I have four:
1. Markbass 800 (with 4X10 and 1X15 cabs)
2. Little Mark II
3. Eden WT 400 and Eden 4X10 cab (at rehearsal studio)
4. Mesa Big Block 750 (with Powerhouse 410 cab) (I used this for years, but switched to Markbass because of the weight.)

After reading a recent thread about amp life spans and how/why they are replaced, I started wondering how many amps people might have laying around. Could be a lead sled, tube head, combo, PA system, repurposed guitar amp or something else entirely. How many things do you have laying around that can drive a cabinet and you use for playing bass?

Stories and rundowns encouraged!

Current total is five. Breakdown:

Fender Rumble 100 1x12 combo
Fender Rumble 40 1x10 combo

Darkglass 900v2LE micro head
Reiner VHF700 hybrid head (all-tube front end)
Reiner Studio 1200 hybrid head (all-tube front end)


Speaker cabs used with the heads:
Reiner Wunderkab 1x12 (hybrid reflex, neo) with tweeter (x2)
Reiner 2x12 (sealed, ceramic) with mid driver
Bergantino NV610 (sealed, ceramic) -- my fave for tone but rarely used because it's too much for most of my gigs
Bergantino HG310 3x10 (ported, neo) with tweeter (x2) -- currently on consignment sale because I own too much stuff


The Darkglass is my usual #1 simply because it's smallest/lightest and has onboard distortion modules (nice convenience)
The Reiner hybrid reflex 1x12 cabs are my usual #1 because they are lightest, and also modular: (I can gig just one)

Kustom K200-2 3x12 (not technically a "bass" amp, but....)
Krossroad 500 2x10/1x15 (in Green!)
Carvin B2000 head only (cab is long gone)

But I'm old, too, so I guess it's ok.

1. Straight Ahead SA-500 - small, portable pedalboard amp that I use with a pedal board or gran and go preamp for small gigs. I usually pair this with a Barefaced 1x10
2. GR one Mini - grab and go amp for small gigs when I don't use a pedal board
3. Mesa Boogie 400+ - my favorite amp ever. Can't beat the tubey goodness!
4. Demeter HBP-1 with amp module - portable, sounds great - 800 watts and a killer preamp in a single rack space
5. GR Bass One 800 - portable and LOUD! Sounds great and plays well with pedal boards
6. Hartke HD500 - for portability and ease of use
7. Fender Studio 40 - home practice
8. Phil Jones Briefcase+ - Battery powered for outdoor gigs
9. Quilter BB800 - transparent with a tube-like power section. Super portable as well.

So only 9! And I have some redundancy there, maybe it's time to clean house a little ...

I have one head, one micro-head that's primarily used as a headphone amp, two combos that double as poor man's PA, one of them battery powered. and one tiny battery-powered amp that doesn't get much use, but is there just in case.

I voted 5, but could vote 3 as well, as one combo and the micro-head push whopping 6W and 10W through the speakers.

if I was to thin the herd, the 6W combo would go first, second would be the 250W/115 combo. and that would leave me with:
1. a 500W head for all my bass needs
2. a Phil Jones 70W combo for portable or battery powered occasions
3. a headphone amp/DI that doubles by being a 10W micro-head for my apartment with crazy neighbors

Got my main head, Verellen Meat Smoke, and my backup, Orange Terrorbass 1000. Even though, eventually, there's some more I'd like to get, this is all I need for gigging. Between those and a bunch of Amp sims, pretty good to go.

More amps than I would have thought...

I use the practice amps the most. I never understood the point of these little amps, but the Fenders really sound great and the portability and ease of use helps me use them for amplified practice.

I have a rack set up including a preamp and power amp with 2 210 cabs , two 320 watt combos, and a 300 watt all tube head, all manufactured by Eden. Either or both cabs can be used with the rack it the tube amp Frankly, it’s a lifetime supply... darn it…LOL!!

I have 4. I leave one at practice and the others at home. I ALWAYS take two heads to every gig.

Owning only one head is not good, unless you don't gig or you have a backup plan in case your head craps out during a gig. If you can afford it, get a backup head, or at least a cheap DI box.

I do have various direct boxes and a Headrush MX5. I don't have a good bass monitor for the MX5 - I put an Alto TX212S sub under the FRFR108 but even crossed over (guessing 100hz or so) the 108 is excursion limited to about 95db with bass guitar.
