How many basses do you own? (Currently) Part 2

Hi everyone,

I was feeling a little guilty that I put down 4 basses until I saw the 28-percentile owns 5-9!

1. My first bass, a Fender MN P-bass (blue with white pick plate, rosewood fingerboard) from 1992
2. My second, an Ibanez ATK 305 from 1996 (just gave it new strings!)
3. A Breedlove accoustic bass, which I adore for its portability and sound
4. My favorite and #1, a new Fender Jazz Elite (black w/maple fingerboard). Still figuring out all the fantastic tonal possibilities.

I recently gave the P-bass new pots and fixed a ground issue. I've been trying to decide whether to upgrade the pickups and bridge as a project, or just sell it. It was my first afterall, I even have a picture of my daughter as a baby sitting on my lap and holding on to it trying to play the strings. 17 years ago, that was!

I own 3 at the moment:

1. My first bass is a P-J Fender-style bass from Craftsman, a local Singapore brand. Cost me about US$160. It is a little bit heavy but it feels great and sounds great. At least I cannot tell how it is bad. I bring it to gig many times. Been thinking to sell it to reduce the number of bass I have but can't bring myself to do it.
2. My second upgrade bass is a P-J 5-string bass from Yamaha. BB425. Low action, great neck, flat fingerboard (23 5/8" radius) which I like . Feels bulky but solid.
3. Squire VM Jazz Bass 4-string. Gotta admit I buy this because I REALLY like the color combination: Natural body color, maple fretboard, black inlays. It has buzz fret at 17th fret which I can't seem to fix. Tried to adjust the trust rod to no success. I like the slim jazz neck though and also the roasted maple look of the neck.

I feel a little guilty when I read about a major bass player who plays the same bass nearly all of the time (e.g., Flea). Yes, each of my basses has a different tone and the 5-string bass and the short scale bass do not overlap with the 4-string basses. But, I realize that I need to concentrate on being a better player, and I really need only one bass with a comfortable neck to do that. Maybe it's the collector in me, or maybe it's a quest to find "the perfect bass." But, I won't recognize that perfect bass until my skills are sufficiently developed to appreciate which bass is perfect for me.

In acquisition order:
1. my first bass, a black Hartke branded 4 string active J, probably made by Samick - sounded fine at first, but the cheap pots won't stay clean
2. Hamer 5 string passive J, sunburst with tortoiseshell pick guard, found on CraigsList before I really knew how to judge a bass, but still was a great buy and is my usual go-to bass
3. JB Player acoustic 5-string, a Christmas gift from my lovely wife and kids, and a great sounding ABG
4. Fender Prodigy 4-string active P/J, all black - a nice little item, rare?, currently strung with flats for a mellow sound
5. Upright no-name German double bass, works great for jazz, blue grass, and musicals
6. Fender J passive 4-string, MIM, 2007, natural finish with tortoiseshell pick guard, special edition, has a great P-bass snarl

Now just have to figure out how to play it. Pulled the trigger on it because it was such a good price, so figured now or never. I did detun tp BEAD on my Jackson and was thinking of just tuning my tbird tp it, but by the time I put the work into that I need to do, just buy this one.
