During the last year I have downgrading from 4 to 1, by selling or swaping 3 basses that I didn´t use that much: my first bass, a Harley Benton Jazz copy that I bought 7 years ago. It sounded Ok, but the neck dive was horrible due to a super light body made of conglomerate. The quality of the components was bad also, the E key bended after a fall, and one day the strap button fell off while I was playing it. Luckily I was fast enough to avoided hitting the ground. So, finally I put it on the market and sold it for 50 €.
Also gone is my second bass. Ibanez ATK, bought 5 years ago. This one had nice quality, and sounded good. But was too damn heavy and the neck was like a baseball bat, too thick for my hands. So it was gone as well. I swap it for a Telecaster guitar (I though it would be easier to sell than the bass), that later I swap for a Ibanez semihollow guitar that looked nicer than the tele, which finally was sold for the price I was asking for the bass in the first place.
And the third bass guitar that was gone was a semihollow Ibanez ABF, bought 3 years ago. I play in a loudy rock band, so in this context I used scarcily when we had some acoustic thing going on... I put it on the market and received a swap offer for a bass amp just 2 weeks before of a gig, at a time when I had no gigging amp. So it was convenient at that time. It was gone.
OK, now what I have left is a Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pro which I really like. I bough it almost 3 years ago, after some years of dreaming with having a Thunderbird... Nikki Sixx, Frankie Poulain and 70s Tom Hamilton influenced, you know... it is great for me, much lighter and confortable to play than the Ibanez ...and less neck dive than the Harley Benton hahaha
It just perfect for me. However, I feel that I need another bass, as a replacement for gigs, in case something goes wrong... also it would be good to have them splitted, one for rehearsing (half step down tuning), the other one for home use (keep it at standerd tuning for study and practice), and not havig to carry my bass up and down all the time.
So, hopefully, I will need to visit this thread again to change my vote in the near future. It´s about time to go for another one. I am still searching and trying to decide. This time it needs to be a real winner.
