Bassless bass player's journal, entry 7, day 7:
My hands are shaking constantly. I dont know if it's the build-up of hatred for the human race (due mainly to how Disney has destroyed the Star Wars franchise) or the effects of cold-turkey quitting (vitals are all over the place, can barely sleep, sweat a lot. I have constant nightmares & things seem to move on their own during my waking hours), but i am resisting the temptation to engineer a zombie virus to destroy humanity with all the free time i have on my hands.
Today, i will venture out into the world. I have heard that mobile phone screens and AI are the new protagonists.. maybe i can go through the day without having to make eye contact with anyone. Hopefully i can find a piece of wood to fiddle with. Next contact with an actual bass estimated at 6 days from now. This is a long tunnel, can't even see any light on the other side.

Rickenbacker 4001, early '70s vintage, cream color. My favorite, lightning-fast action, but heavy.
Westone Rail headless bass, black. Probably my most frequently used due to portability.
Kramer DMZ6000B. Nothing says "heavy metal" like playing on real metal. My shoulder says, "please don't".
Peavey International Milestone IV, black. Picked up really cheap, turned out to be massively screwed up.

Added a 13th. Just picked up a 1987 EBMM Sabre from in the classifieds. The crazy thing is that I only owned the Dingwal, Roscoe and SX when Covid happened. I hadn't played much in years after getting pretty burnt out from playing 6 days a week for almost a decade. Might be time to start thinning the herd so stuff doesn't just collect dust.

I've added two more since this post. Here's my updated list!

1. 1990's Roscoe LG-3005 (my number 1 that will be buried with me)
2. 1974 Hagstrom HII BN (my first vintage and first short scale bass)
3. 1979 Ibanez Studio ST-925 (heavy as a house, but amazing tone)
4. 1960s Kent 822 Hollowbody (bought from Jake Serek on a deal, fun change of pace)
5. Dingwall 1st Gen Combustion 5 (for when I'm feeling metal)
6. Nodrstrand Acinonyx Cat Bass (still haven't fully bonded with this one yet)
7. Bordwell Dola 5 (got on trade to check out, really enjoy it so far)
8. Supro Huntington II (killer short scale that I love gigging with)

I had 5 basses for a long time but unloaded a few. Had too many five strings and I prefer fours. I will keep my SR5 HH ceramic as it is my favorite of the fives and I would like to keep one 5 string bass. I had to buy and sell a lot of basses to find these gem’s but I am very happy with these 3 I have.

I had a kind of nice collection about a year ago.

I’ve since downsized my collection to just two basses that I play regularly, instead of a bunch collecting dust lol.

The only bass sold that I miss was the Gibson G3 Reissue. Mainly because it was like production #174 or something like that. Great sound but man… for me, such an uncomfortable bass. Super heavy and just such a thick neck.
