Thanks to this fantastic website I am up to 5 basses now.

1964 Hofner violin bass - dated 24th May '64.
1992 Rickenbacker 4003 - My favorite bass of all.
1989 Squier Precision - Made in Korea by Samick.
1993 Hohner J bass FL - Solid Maple body, heavy.
2007 / 08 Peavey Cirrus BXP - amazing bass for the price.

Five at present, including the two Ministar practice basses (which are great when I need to drag one in and out of the van, practicing while waiting at doctor's appts, while the van is being worked on, etc.)

I'm planning on eventually buying a Dingwall Combustion 5 string fretted; and after that, if they come out with one, perhaps a Combustion 5 string fretless. I think those 7 would give me just about all the options I'll ever need, myself, for different tones, etc.

I currently own 9 different basses. I had no idea I owned that many until this thread made me sit down and think about it.

Right now I am only playing my 2 five strings, with the passive Alvarez as my main and the Yamaha as backup. The Dean i keep for sentimental value as it was my first giging bass. The fenders and gibson im keeping for collector value and the crappy ventura gibson copy plays amazing. The Fender acoustic bass is good for camping trips and the weird thing was just too cool to throw away even though it doesn't work.

Ok we're up to 28 now (since last October when I first picked up the bass) and we are in a holding pattern now.
That represents 3.5 basses per month or almost 1 a week (it would be 1 a week if you consider the 6 or 7 I have bought and released).
None of them are boutique or especially expensive but they are all good players with new strings and set-ups.
Decent playing basses all with their own special qualities ...
I'm a bit afraid of playing a "top of the line" bass because none of these may be able to cut it in comparision. But I have fun playing them all (some get a bit more use than others).

Not that I would like a few more (Ibanez Musician, Ricky to name a couple). But I have to admit it got a bit crazy.
But as soon as the line of credit is cleared (and my wife lets me) watch out!!:hyper:

I couldn't decide which I wanted, due to limited availability of both. So, when I found a smokin' deal on each, I bought them both for an extended test-drive. As soon as a clear favorite emerges, the other on is going up for sale here.
