How many basses do you own, total?

Just two, both MIM Fender Jazz, a 2002 fretless 4 and a 2006 fretted 5. Bought both used, and in each case I sold a bass to help pay for the new one coming in.

The only new bass I have ever owned was an SX Jazz 5, the rest have been used. All my amps have been used.

Wouldn't mind a Steinberger, though.

I own four right now, provided we count a 9-string short-scale fan-fret bass as a bass and not something else. One of those (a Tobias Killer B 5-string) hasn't been touched in over a year.

My Tobias Basic 6-string is my main instrument, and gets nearly all the use. The Modulus fretless 6-string and the Bee 9-string get used for about 2 songs each where they seem to work best. Both are a bit of a challenge to play well. The (Gibson) Tobias is emphatically not a challenge, it's intuitive, comfy, rich and transparent. Really, the only bass I have that lets me concentrate totally on the music - it never gets in the way.

So what happens is, I get spoiled. It's the only bass where I can play exactly what I hear in my mind, as fast as I can hear it. I don't think I'll be getting rid of the others, but I'm gradually getting to where I'll only play the one bass.

One Bogart fretless 5, single Bart in the bridge position, and Demeter preamp.

One Warmoth fretted 5 Jazz, Birdseye maple everything. Bart HB in bridge position, running passive right now, but you never know.

May be adding to the collection really soon. Local builder Tom Clement has impressed me, may have to have a couple customs made. hehehehehe

Tom's basses are great-I have one and I love it!

I regularly play my 5 string and fretless. I had been playing the Alembic whne I played a 4 string fretted, but it needs a setup/fret job/whatever and I'm penniless so it's retired for now. This has led to my rediscovering my Tobias, which I now realize is the best bass in the world. It's going to see a lot more time. I wish I could get the action this low on all my basses. Among the other 4 strings, I like the Alembic for its aggressive bite so it gets used when that's appropriate. The Mouradian sounds better than any of the others with a pick, so when I'm picking I use that one. The cheapies get used when I don't wnat to have to worry about the bass I'm using.

Just noodling with the Midibass now, but I can see it having its uses in a band without a keyboard player. I set the Bich up with guitar strings when I got the Gibson, 8 and 12 string basses seemed redundand. I just noodle on it once in a while at home. The Gibson got used frequently until recently, I think the project I was using it for has dried up.

The uprights get noodled on at home.

What are the particulars on the Alembic? I owned an Exploiter years ago but it was a low-end for an Alembic.
