Seven basses in just about seven years of playing. Sad.. I wish I'd bought one $1,000 bass instead of seven <$200 basses.

IMO, it's no competition. I have bought what I have bought. Most were really nice basses, and most I wish I still had although if I had it to do again, I probably would have been much more selective and would have ended ip with about ten.
I officially switched to bass in 2000. I always had a bass around when I was recording. I started with a Hondo, Ibby Musician, Spirit headless and finally a white P-bass display model I got from Rondo when they had a physical store. I switched to bass shortly after that in 2000 and upgraded to MIA 2000 Jazz, which I still owned.
Then, I started the quest for my sound that has lead me thru over 30 different bass and right back to my Fender Jazz. Still have a couple on hand.

Been playing since 1966-have owned seven electrics(4 of which I still have), including the EB-3 in the picture above(wish I still had IT-just for sentimental reasons) and three acoustics, still have 1. I always felt 'disloyal' to a bass if I wasn't playing it...
I've been playing bass about 8 years and have had 18 basses. I have 6 now. Several purchases I shouldn't have made, but those were also mostly the lower priced basses, so it's not too big of a deal. I also put two basses together from parts, and that was fun, helped me learn a lot, and I still have them.
Started playing in 2008, and I have two basses. The first one I bought for $175 at a pawnshop. The other I got used at GC for $200 (Ibanez BTB). Pretty sweet deals for both.
Also, if it counts, I have a Saga bass kit I've not yet assembled and a broken knock-off jazz bass I got for $15 from my school band

My 1st one was a 1989 Ibanez Studio bass. Since then, it's been the 2002 Fender Precision, the 2010, Precision V, and the Indo-Jazz fretless.

My Fender has been the "go to #1" for the last 20 years, at LEAST 60 others since I've been married (14 years).

Started playing in 1970. I have owned about 35 basses, most acquired in the past 10 years. I have sold 10 - 15 in the same period. I likes what I likes.
Started playing in the late 70s. Having real trouble trying to recall all the basses I've owned in that time, but probably 50-60. I think the most I owned at one time was 8 or so.
Right now I own four, but one is going up for sale and one other one (SX P-copy) is in storage on the other side of the country from me for the foreseeable future.)
No real interest in owning more than 2 basses, possibly two really good ones and one "knockaround" bass just to grab off a stand and plunk around on (that'll be the SX when I get it back.)

I've been playing bass since around age 6 and I'm now 50. I think it's somewhere around 300 and counting or not counting.
I remember a 2 year span while living in New Hampshire and owning 18 basses all over the $2500 mark each. I was 27 then and they were mostly Tobias and Pedulla (including a double neck model) and a few other big name high dollar builders. Ah the days!
Either way I build and play my own instruments at this point in time and don't see myself buying anything from other builders unless I'm going to hang it on the wall.
The basses I miss the most are a see-thru deep red Rickenbacker, single pickup, no binding. (traded for a white 4001 in 1974 plus cash) White fretless 4 string Pedulla P/J pups and a nice neck thru tobias from maybe the 4th year they were made.
I've owned about 20 fender basses and I don't miss any of them and Gibson basses are the pits in my book (I never played one I cared for in the least) so I owned very few.
These days I don't really even look at those multi lam neck thru basses (though I've built many) and have gone back to the simplier Fender style but in a much better quality like Sadowsky or Mike Lull.
That's the quality and style I now build myself and I'm satisfied to the point of not having "gas" about other builders instruments.

I just bought another one, but it won't be here for a week or so. That'll make 44 basses in 20+ years of playing. The most I ever owned at once was 10 or 12. Right now, I have three, with one coming in and one for sale.
