How many gigs do you have booked?

I had 37 shows booked for the year, of which we had already played 7 before things went south. So of the 30 left, we've had 12 cancel, and I am of the opinion that we won't play again until August. And to be honest, I am not going to pursue booking any new shows that are indoors. I am going to only be looking at outdoor shows, which will limit options. I have pretty much mentally written off 2020 for gigs, and since I have done that, I am content with it. I don't like it, but I can't change it.

In New York State, they’ve been talking about reopening regionally. In my county, in central NY, they were just considering opening on May 15. We have a gig on the books for May 17. Haven’t gotten an official cancellation, but I can’t imagine actually playing that one

Like many, my gigs started getting cancelled at the beginning of quarantine. I'm cool with that. I know I have no control over this situation. I'm assuming everything at least through the end of the year is cancelled, if not longer. Just got a call for doing a photo shoot for a new band. My question was "how?". I do have control over me and I'm not going to risk my life on the hope that things are cool. I'm also in an at risk group and tempting fate never seemed all that bright to me. So it may be a long time before I get onstage at a venue again. In the meantime I'm doing some streaming stuff, that's about it. Honestly I'm not all that broken up about it... it is what it is.

My festival band works late spring through Labor Day, generally 30 dates a year. Only a handful of gigs are still on the calendar, the Aug 22nd date the earliest.

My RnB band works clubs mostly, all closed now and even if these venues open I don’t think I would play indoors without a vaccine or Positive Antigen test.

I’m done for 2020?!

These are countering viewpoints, and the last time talkbass allowed these the thread really devolved. I think this one will ass well.

I'm not trying to question a mod here, but it seems like people were almost ran off of this board for offering the counterview to what this staff member is posting. Is there an official talkbass.com position?
There is no freedom of speech in a moderated forum, and I don't mean that in a bad way. There are rules about what you can say and there are people that, in theory anyway, enforce those rules uniformly. If anyone is unhappy with those rules or the way they are enforced, there are plenty of forums where you can say whatever you want with no filters at all.

It is very real here, ambulances in the neighborhood on an hourly basis picking up people, (I remember 3 ambulances in a 4 hour window just on my block in one day), occasionally followed by medical examiners (meaning they are picking up dead bodies) .

A dietitian friend being called in to help out in the local hospital and not coping well being surrounded by dead bodies day after day. Among family who caught the disease, one is fighting for life, as another one thankfully was on a ventilator and is now at home recuperating; several friends suffered terribly at home, they way they described actually having that illness is something you won't wish upon your worst enemy ('your lungs feel like glass"). They were sick for weeks, while recuperating will take another 6 weeks before they dare to venture outside, because with a completely ravaged immune system, anything else besides this virus could kill them.

Noone knows how it is going to pan out; what is pretty obvious, as this city (New York) besides on high rents, is built on music life and thousands of active musicians, is that lots of places to play either will reopen much much later, or simply won't reopen at all (we're talking about all places - from dive bars, through legendary places like the Village Vanguard, to Carnegie Hall.)

And yet, every musician I know, whose livelihood is music, while holing up in their tiny apartments, is managing any way they can, sharing jokes, recording new music, convening online with a positive and encouraging mindset and trying to figure out how to manage. So yes, we are in this together, with fellow New Yorkers who choose to help each other out, support each other through thick and thin, pitching in with positive vibes, because the shared positive energy of the people of this town makes it so. TBH, New York is love-hate for me, but in moments like this, what a great city.

So no, the cure is not worse than the disease. No celebrity is forcing you to do anything. You have a choice to be in this together. A big shoutout to all of you who choose to do so.

We still have a few on the books starting in late July...dont know that one will happen but Im hoping the rest later in the year will. For my band, we had finally got going with the bookings, played a bunch of places and were in talks to book return gigs when this all went down. Timing was just terrible for us.

I have 3 shows scheduled in August, not sure if they will happen or not.
2 shows in September
1 show in October
1 show in November.

Will any of them actually happen ?
Who knows.
I will keep booking shows anyway, and if they get cancelled, at least we have a rain check or something.

I'm actually thinking about taking my generator and small PA system and playing at a park with nobody around, just to get out and play.

I agree 100%. It's just good to know how the rules are enforced going into things rather than how they are stated. We all know there can be differences in those two things. As you said there are many places, some of them hell sites, where people can say whatever they want. I just know how things can get derailed too.

Sounds like a good idea honestly.

I keep my band pretty busy and we have the summer booked. However as of right now I'm looking at most, if not all of them being cancelled as everything is closed around here. The last big show we were going to do was Queensryche and Vixen last March and of course that got cancelled.

I just want to say that originally I didn't really take this too serious as in my area we weren't really affected by it untill the end of March. Since then we have gone from 0 cases to now 800+ with 13 deaths I believe. Of those deaths one was my uncle who was in his 70's and another was a fan of the band who was a nurse in her 40's or 50's. She went to a lot of our shows.

I have never personally known anyone who has died of the flu while I now know 2 people who have died of COVI19 within the last 3 weeks. So yeah I am looking at things much differently now. As much as I miss playing live, I can wait.

Everything that was booked at least 8 off the top of my head that are left including next Sat I am just letting them
pass, I have had 3 shows cancelled or just go by, since we last performed on March 15. We did not formally cancel anything in hopes the entire year wouldn't be a bust, but people are still testing + as well has leaving us on a daily here in NJ so taking it one day at a time. stay safe people

apparently our dates are still on the venue calendars, pending opening up the businesses and the bands being willing to hit the streets and play. But for now, all the venues are still shut down.
IF we get a 'go back to work' green light from the Governor, then we'll cross the bridge of 'play or not' when we get to the date.
Personally, I'm not planning on playing any gigs until I feel it is completely safe to do so.
despite what may be on someone else's calendar. No one is paying me big tour bucks to take the risk and a $100 gig on a local pub stage sure isn't worth it.
