Some people are DIYers, some are not. If you have the mindset, and know how to do the proper research to learn how to tackle an issue, then you can do it. I do all of my own electrical work. I have rewired basses, added preamps, I fix way too many of my friends amps, all my own amp repair, I have wired my home, etc.
But I also do other kinds of DIY. Two weeks ago my garbage disposal went out. As a working musician I don't have an extra $100 to give to a plumber, so I did the research and then did the job (very easy by the way!).
So go for it, just do your homework. Practice your soldering first before the real thing and have fun!
