Good question. Many players like a one-of-each approach in their arsenal. The P is presumably the simplest of basses, doing one thing really well. We get one we like and we stick with it. Or not... I have 2 P's, and fretted and a fretless. I really don't feel the need to get another. Interested in reasons why, especially for players such as Ed Friedland, who owns many, and they clearly each have a special place in his heart.

I think the body-type is the defining factor here, though in my opinion, the pickup configuration should be THE defining factor.

Squier Matt Freeman with an Aguilar AG-4P-60 pickup strung with Chromes. Thinking about switching to TIs next restringing.

And an MIM Fender with a Klein 62 Epic pickup and currently strung with GHS Pressurewounds but which will soon be tried with LaBella Copper White Nylons.

(I've got very definite ideas about how I want my PBs to sound. )
