How many pedals before a pedalboard?

I had 4. Just go to home depot and get a piece of wood cut to size and some industrial Velcro. Should be about $10 for both.
Old suitcase, and piece of plywood with some weird upholstery stuff, and velcro. Cost me, all in all, like, $15.00?
I like that! I should toss together something little like that for those "grab one pedal and a tuner" type jams.
I owned several (at least 6) before bought a pedalboard. But I only used 1 or 2 at any time before I got a pedalboard. Then, I got a pedalboard, and started to use pedals a lot more. Then I started to notice all the cool pedals out there. Then I bought some of those cool pedals. Now I need a new pedalboard...
It's a vicious circle, but a fun vicious circle.
My main problem with the new board is that commercial ones large enough (essentially the biggest pedaltrain) are incredibly expensive here, and I need something big enough to hold the 16 pedals and a mixer + a bunch of true bypass switches that now make up my consolidated bass and guitar and multi-instrumental looping pedalboard...

I like my power supply mounted with my pedals so I would always want some kind of pedalboard, although I wouldn't bother for just one pedal.
Perhaps modifying a flightcase style guitar/bass case could work? You could get a Rockcase here for $200ish, or something more heavy duty from Jansen. Just an idea to save cash....

i've got two pedals and a power supply unit, made a little board and put it in a suitcase which fits well 
I would get one. They're nice, keeps your stuff together and protected, plus it acts as a powerstrip across the front of the stage. I know the guitar player and singer I play with always plug into my board. Currently using a Furman pedal board, I forget which model.
Currently using 5 pedals; the ever-present Boss tuner, Boss octave, Boss stereo chorus, Bassballs and just got an EBS IQ in today. Can't wait to get him and try it out.
*Kind of funny but it seems like everyone has that one thing they should buy but never do, no matter how cheap it is. I went like 10 years before I bought a guitar stand. I don't know why and I could never explain it. Nice when I did though.

Nice to see a fellow Kiwi here. I'm a bit leary of Rockcase stuff because the powered pedalboard I was using before was a Rockcase one - it was great while it lasted, but it's now quit working altogether - overloads with just one pedal plugged in. The plastic jacks, plastic power cable socket and stuff also haven't held up well.
Thanks for the suggestion about guitar/bass flightcases - it's an option I've been thinking of, but I think in the end I'll be building my own. Guitar cases take a little too much stage room, I'm hoping for something a little bit more compact, though with 17 items plus bypass switcher, it may be asking a bit much

If I am taking 2 or more pedals they go on a pedal board just for ease of transport, set up and tear down. I have a small collection of various sized boards all with the same velcro set ups and power supplies, daisy chains and bags or cases for transport. That way i can be sure everything is working and tweaked.
