So I guess I'll start

How many rigs am I actively using?

Three, and all three are normally used every week.

At home:
Amp - Peavey Firebass 700
Cabs - MarkBass Traveler 151P & 102P
(stays setup, never goes anywhere)

Sundays / Church:
Amp - GK Goldline 500
Cabs - MarkBass Traveler 151P & 102P
(stays at church, set up on stage, no load in/out)

Friday nights:
Amp - Mesa D-800+
Cab - GK Neo IV 212
(Stays packed up ready to go for Friday nights)

*Note: on my Mesa / GK rig I'm also running a Shure wireless system as well as a Laney Black Country Customs "The Custard Factory" Compressor > Way Huge "Pork & Pickle" OD/Fuzz > Sushi Box "More", 2 tube preamp. My other rigs, no wireless, no FX.

Actively using for what? I have about 60 amps that I play through for amusement. But I don't gig anymore so none of my rigs are gainfully employed.

When I was still a full time pro I had two rigs.

My touring rig was housed in a big rolling rack with an Ashley MX508 mixer, QSC power amp, Furman power conditioner with lights, Tuner, and a Rack Drawer. For cabs I primarily used an Eden D210XLT, but also had a D410XLT. On some concerts I switched between bass guitar, upright bass, and electric upright.


My second rig was a GK 700RB/112 combo. This was bought primarily for jazz trio gigs. It also served as my rehearsal rig and was sometimes used for local performances with bigger ensembles.

I have my Bag End S15B cabinets and a SUBWAY 4 x 10 and a bunch of different heads…
MESA, QUILTER, GENZLER, FUCHS, WALTER WOODS MARKBASS ..I rotate them and always have two..we do many Friday/Saturday road shows so I get to use them all throughout the year.
The MESA WD800 see’s most of the action…
I have an incoming Schroeder 2x10 that I’m looking forward to using..

1. On the road/fly gig with my main band: IEM with a Mesa preamp on a small pedalboard
2. Local with my originals band: Mesa WD-800 or D-350 into Subway112/115 or 212 cabs
3. Local with my punk tribute act: Ampeg SVT-II into either SWR 8x8 or SWR 1x15 cab, or the house 8x10

I currently have two rigs that I'm using when I have to bring my own gear (I use backline a lot).

Fender Rumble 800 combo for an easy lug or small venue gigs.

Bergantino Forté and NXV212 - bigger gigs, touring.

I'm toying with the idea of selling both to fund a pair of Bergantino NXV112 cabs, bringing the rig count down to one. In theory, it should deliver very close to the NXV212 and allow me to bring one or both cabs depending on the gig/venue. And honestly, the NXV212 although pretty light, is super awkward to carry up and down stairs which is why I bought the Rumble in the first place.

Mostly gig thru a GK Fusion 800/210 combo. Throw it on a GK Neo 410MBE cab if I need a little more volume, or can set it on the other side of the stage. Really likin' this unit!

Once in a while pull out the Sunn 200s or Concert head thru a 215 Concert cab JBLs.

Also a Crate BX-40 combo 12" in a very small rehearsal space. Does fine.

For my home rig I have everything setup and play through them all a lowish volume. There is a nice 'tonal overlap' which creates a nice and full rich sound.

For most non-backline gigs I will bring one of the 212 combos.

For bigger venues I can bring both combos.

Lately I have been severely pondering going with (gasp!) a pedalboard which would probably go against my long time philosophy of KISS. I am trying to get people to talk me out of it.

Two: a DIY 110 combo with a Traynor SB-200 head, and an AudioKinesis TC112AF with a DIY 500 watt head. The latter rig stays at home for practice and gear testing these days since I no longer gig, the former goes out fairly frequently to open mics and jams.

I selected two, but one of those is a Boss Katana Go that I use for practicing at home. My rehearsal / performance rig is a Markbass "Jeff Berlin" 115 combo with an additional Markbass NY 115 cab underneath if needed.

#1 - My main rig for rehearsals and gigs is a Barefaced Super Compact with one of these 3 amps:

1. Jad Freer Sisma
2. Quilter Bass Block v803
3. Pure Tone Amps - Mini Tone (a 50W tube amp that weigths only 4.2 kg)

#2 - My weekend rig (stays in my country side house) is a Barefaced One10 + Quilter Interbass



#3 - My super micro rig for home practice and rehearsals with my vocal band is a Phil Jones Double Four

10 foot cable to Korg Pitchblack tuner. 10 foot cable from tuner to amp.

I started using the inline foot switch tuner about 12 years ago. Before that, it was always a single cable to the amp, and a TU-12H tuner, which I would use to tune up before the show only.
