How many TBers don't use straplocks?

I have Schallers on most of my players (guitar & bass). I think someone mentioned that they don't have them on their Beatle bass, nor do I. Too light, and strap locks would be overkill.
For guitars that have the upper strap pin behind the neck, I use Marvel strap locks. The Marvel lock mechanism doesn't stick out as far as Schallers, which is a bit more comfortable in that area.

I've played with two guitar players over the years who have dropped guitars due to strap locking systems that accidently released.

Personally I love a system that I can no longer find, and if anyone knows where to get them, I'd appreciate it:

No photo, but what they are is a piece of leather with a strap button attached to one end, the other end gets screwed permanently to the bass. You put your strap on the attached strap button which is a double button. The strap goes on the first level, and a little leather strip flips over and gets put on the second level, holding the strap in place. I've used it for 25 years and never once has it failed me...only problem: I only have one set, and can only set up one bass at a time with the system.

Anyone else know about this system and where to get them?

+1, I want to know this too!

I believe in strap locks, but I don't really like the one I have and would prefer the above system.

Most of my basses have the strap on all the time, which keeps the button holes in the strap from becoming too loose. Nevertheless, I want strap locks for all of them.

My Musicman has very large strap buttons that I always felt safe with, but the others don't.

I have an old strap with looser button holes that I would be using if I had locks for it. I had a bass slip out of that strap once (caught it).

Is this what you're asking about?

Several guitarists I have worked with use these, they swear by 'em...

I have used them on every bass I've owned. I have never had one fail.

To say "Ah I don't need 'em they might fail anyway" is like saying I shouldn't wear seatbelts because I might want to get thrown through the windshield and out of my burning car instead of strapped in.

A little care in installation, very little maintenance and some common sense and you are good. I don't see where this is a huge issue, but then I don't mind taking the time to do things right, where a lot of people do have an issue with that. And I'll never understand that.

I’m surprised more builders (who don’t use strap locks) don’t switch to better buttons.
My old (Ibanez made) Roland GR bass has wider buttons and is very secure.

I used strap locks until I put a couple of dings in my basses with the strap locks.
Never been a fan of the rattling either.

Now I put “gripper" buttons on all my at-risk basses;

$3.00, klutz-proof, and they work great.

When I was in 6th grade I played my very first bass if front of the whole school! At the conclusion of my performance, to the loud cheers of my classmates, I raised my arms in triumph. My bass proceeded to crash to the gym floor with a loud crash, boom, bang. From that moment, every bass I own has strap locks!

Oh those are real close...it looks to be like they have a quick disconnect feature whereas the ones I use just have a double-level button which holds first the strap, then the flap, which holds the whole thing together. I'll try to pry my camera away from the child long enough to snap a picture of mine.

If I have a beef w/my 2002 Precision, it's the Strap-locks pin on the horn keeps coming loose. I used a small amount of glue and toothpick shreds to re-set it once, but it's loosening again. I lightly tighten it again & again...not wanting to strip out the hole too much.

I am going to have it switched to whatever pin style Fender has put on my new Precision V.

A nice wide tab it is. I don't do the Steve Vai guitar-swing stuff anyway.
