how much would you pay for a bass

$800 is the most I've paid (used 62 AV RI).....I could see myself paying up to $900...I only pay cash....I would never charge a card for a bass or any musical equipment.
What I paid for my Lakland 55-94: $3500.00
That's about as high as I could justify, but my other bass is $1200: Fender Am. Standard P.

That's pretty much my philosophy as well. I have/have had some pretty decent basses, but have always got great deals on them.
If money were no object, I would have grabbed a gorgeous '65 Jazz from Gruhn's one day. I fell in love with it, but couldn't justify spending the money, even though it was reasonably priced.
But lately, the basses that I seem to enjoy playing the most were all well-under a grand. (WAY under in some cases!) There are some very nice basses out there for some great prices. Timing, luck, and diligence in keeping your eyes open are very important...
It depends. If its the jens Ritter flora arum or how ever it's spelled, I might drop two, or three, or 250Gs. It all depends on the bass, story wise, spec wise, etc.
Max, would probably be like 1300.00. I can find nice used Spectors, Lakland, G&L, USA Fenders, etc... in that range. But, in my opinion some of the best do not even costthat much, like Geddy Lee bass, Stingrays, Ibanez, CV and VM Squiers, etc.
I can't see myself spending more than about $3k on an electric, which would cover just about anything I could dream up and have Chris Stambaugh build, or a vintage-but-still-giggable Fender.

It would depend what kind of band I was playing in at the time. If I felt like I needed a really high priced bass to do lots of recording, then I'd go for it. I just can't justify one right now tho.
For a decent bass, I would pay somewhere between $300 to $700. when it comes it buying a bass guitar, it really doesn't matter how much they cost...it's all about personal taste in sound quality. personally, I don't need to pay like thousands of dollars on a good playing bass. because I have played affordable bass guitars and mid-priced bass guitars that has awesome sound quality. the best bass guitars I've played so far is schecter stiletto basses and Ibanez soundgear basses. those are my kind of bass guitars.
Once again, I'm having a hard time keeping my $2,800+ bass. It's on a credit card and that's not smart. It isn't killing me financially, but it isn't the way to reduce debt/income ratio.
